Default Is Evo A Classic Yet?

Sure, we all know the flatheads, Knucks, Pans and Shovels are now considered classics. but what about Evos?

Are the old Evos classics yet, or when will they be considered old enoungh to achieve classic status?

It seems to me that the older Evo bikes should be considered classics, but all the bike shows I've attended have always made the cutoff with the Shovel motor. The judges won't/don't give consideration to the older Evos as a classic bike, even though the oldest Evo bikes are over 20 years old. So I guess we have to wait until 2018 for Evos to be classics?

I thought "classic" was 20 years, here they stop at Shovel. maybe need to wait till the last of the evos is 20.

I'm no expert, but based onthe fact that a lot of manufacturers still make and sell new 2008 motorcycles with Evo-style engines, I'd vote no. The Evo is not a classic motor yet.

I'm "on the fence" with the CLASSIC or NOT thing. But,noting that some manufacters are making new 2008 motorcycles with new Knuck and Pan,etc. STYLE engines, I've got to wonder/ask if that has any bearing on the matter either way

Very soon the early evo bikes will be 25 yrs. old and eligible for historic license plates in many states so I guess that counts for something in regard to classic status.

That would make it a classic - however - since a lot of folks still manufacturer that style - it can't be a classic unless - it was a true 25 year old evo motor - right????

Does age alone make a design a classic? I'm not sure I agree with that. I think the Evo is a great engine, but not yet a "classic" in the judging sense.

A classic is something from its era that stands out from the rest. A great leap in technology or a design liked by a large group of folks. A controlled few made. Something a generation grew up on or with.

A classic should not be diposable. Its needs to be around and working a long time frome now. Wait 20 years and see if the Evo is a classic. The bikers will decide.
