Default Belt Final Drives

My FLSTC is my first belt-driven bike. All the others are/were either chain or shaft driven. I have friends who also have belt-driven bikes (Harleys and a few others), but I thought I’d ask a few questions here about the Evo belt drive.

1. How do y’all like it?

2. While belt drive may not be the ultimate for high-power applications (e.g., I know of no racing bike that uses a belt) or off-road applications (open belts), how reliable have you found your belt drives to be?

3. What adjustments have you found yourself doing with the belt and how often have you had to do these?

4. How many miles of service have you typically gotten from your belt drive?

5. Is there a brand of belt that you find to be better than other brands? If so we do you typically get it? Cost?

6. Anything else you think is pertinent to this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
MPH

They are a lot quieter and a lot cleaner. Get the service manual for your bike and in it it will show you the different types of wear and tear and what to expect from the examples given( fraying, chips in the teeth of the belt, chunks missing). No real estimate on lifespan or mileage!

Hammerhead Pat,

Yes, I have a manual. I was just interested in what others have experienced in real-world use. Quite often what the manuals say and what folks actually experience is not the same.............

I have noticed several other manufacturers have adopted belt drives in recent years and Harley is sticking with them. I suspect that folks are quite happy with them. I won't miss the ever constant and frequent chain adjustments, lubing, and replacing of chains..............at least not on this bike........
