Question No Oil in My EVO ?

The npt fittings (feed & return) were weeping oil on my 91 FXR.
I remove em, clean em up, a little thread tape, re -install and check for leaks right? Wrong. Oil pressure light stayed on, no good, check oil tank, no oil moving??. Though maybe I threaded the nipple too far into the elbow so, re did things. Still no oil! Anyone ever heard of an air pocket causing this issue?
Gonna put a pressure guage in next and go from there. Maybe some one else has had this happen to them?

Hi John

On the oil pump right..??

I have not experienced an air pocket preventing flow..
Since the motor has been running as opposed to a new motor, you should not have to prime or re-prime the top-end or check-ball oil fittings, but it's something you might consider doing just to be sure..
I'm not aware of a prob with screwing the fittings in toooo far..

My first guess, not to be offensive here but are you sure you re-applied the hoses correctly.. Feed on Feed-----Return on Return..

When you removed the feed hose how did you prevent the oil in the tank from flowing out, with a plug perhaps..? Plug got removed..?? Or did you empty oil bag first.?

Is oil not Feeding OR not Returning.? OR Both..??

Simple questions but gotta ask..

Unhappy Reply to Frisco.

Yea, I was careful and checked 3 times that I had the lines on right.
The plug I used was too big to be reinstalled with the oil line. I worked in dealerships and custom shop in SoCal. back in the day (21 yrs ago), so I'm carefull and experienced. This is just really baffling.
Thanks for the reply.

Hey John

Hmmm, yes baffling..

The next test I would do is this..

I would remove the return line at the motor amd replace it with a very short line I could aim in a bucket, start the motor and see how much oil flow there is.. That's going right to the source..
IF there is NO return flow at all, jeeeze, that'll be really baffling..

Your question about screwing in the fitting tooo far, I've been thinking about that..
I took apart a Jims pump I have here and neither fitting is close to the gears so I rule out a sheared gear/shaft key, and if I screwed both fittings ALL the way in they would still not cover or impede the flow holes.. That is with this pump.. I cannot say if your pump is similar..
Keep us informed..

Smile Got it fixed!

I tried your deal with a line in a bucket, didn,t work.
Removed all the lines, fittings and filter mount, flushed oil tank. Found some debris in the tank and in the tappet screen. Put it all back together and viola!
It's all good now. Probably the debris.

Thanks for your reply and the advice. Keep the rubber side down!
