| | Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO The cost for my Harley dealer to take the motor out of the frame, send it to harley, reinstall plus put in new primary, clutch, all new cables and hoses, front head bearings, wheel bearings, swing arm bearings and install parts supplied by me-drive belt, rear pully, front brake line=$3400. The cost of the rebuild by harley was $2200. Best deal I think you can get. My dealer also reinstalled my andrews cam, taperlite pushrods, and dyna 2000 ignition after getting the motor back from harley reman. Bike runs as strong as ever. |

Kempo | I got an estimate from Gettysburg, PA HD and they said 4-6 hours for taking the old motor out and replacing it @$75/hour..I think that is very reasonable and i am POOR....LOL...but otherwise the warranty is VOIDED
NOW I HEARD A RUMOR that somewhere You can get the factory rebuild for $1000 off of the $3400 they are asking for in 2009...as per the HD website.???
any one know where that might be? I am in between a rock and a hard place..and really want one of my 2 bikes on the road, before it's too cold, and they told me 2-3 days to pull eninge. 2-3 weeks to get new one, and another 2-3 days to put it back...so 4 weeks TOTAL!!! not bad in my opinion |

| | Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO I checked with Freedom HD here in Lakewood, CO. They have never heard of or participate with this reman program. They said why would they do all that when they can do just as good as a job there, at their dealership... |

| | Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO Kempo, the Harley reman program has been going on for years. Its evenlisted inthe P&A catalogue. If Freedom HD is being straight up with you, I'd do myself a favor and look for another dealer. It doesn't sound like they are with the program at all...

| | Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO Ya, maybe so. Since they are close I am giving them a shot with this ignition switch recall. There is a closer shop up here in Arvada, CO called "Roadies." They even have a dyno there. It's a mom and pop kinda place that I would not mind supporting. I would agree with you. If someplace treats me like crack whore I won't go back there. I can do 95% of my own work. It's the other 5% that scares me... Thanks!

| | Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO kempo, I can't believe that a Harley dealer has not heard of the reman program. I would ask are they going to give you the 12 month unlimited milage that the reman does? My motor came back with everything new, including the leftside case with my old number stamped in it. Harley has to prove that the old case has been destroyed before they can stamp a new one. I would not do business with a dealer/stealer that would feed me a line like the one they gave you. Maybe you should call Harley and let them know what was said to you. |

| | Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO The thing is that even though I have been riding since 1974 this is my first Harley experience. I am still learning the ins and outs of the whole dealer thing. It is my hope that I can steer clear of them unless it is something WAY over my head. I bought this older bike so I could learn to work on Harleys. I will check with the two other major dealers here in Metro Denver. It will be interesting to hear what they say. Again maybe this is a specific dealer thing and they are not mandated to do the reman. Thanks for having my back...
Humble bow,
Kempo

| | Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO You may never need the Dealer. There are places that will help on the technical stuff, oh, wait, thats right here . he he... naw really, if ya gets in over yer head, there is bound to be an indipendant (indy) shop near ya, or another forum member that can help one-on one.
As far as buying parts, that can be done with the internet too!
Go ahead and check out the other dealers, they may surprise you. |

16107-99A Black and Chrome 1340 V2 $2,295
19115-99A Silver and Chrome 1340 V2 $2,295
***the above prices were from harley web site- 11-6-09 15:00 hours.***
this is harleys stated prices from the companies main site. not bad at all. this is harey eating crow, God bless you harley you had it coming.
from the company web site-
Prices are U.S. MSRP and include Con-Way® shipping to and from the Harley-Davidson Powertrain Operations Facility - Capitol Drive in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
make sure this is were they are sending your engine, the prices wont apply at any other factory more than likely - thats why they give you the specific address , any other address then you should ask and make sure the price is the same.
here is a big note- MSRP- manufacturer's suggested retail price. this means the dealer can make up anything he wants , dont like his price go to another dealer- be a good consumer!!!!
aaa big big big question to ask............. (1) how much is the labor to remove and crate the engine, trucker and seaman , the kinds of crate used to move engines for service are usually reused or re-usable , anything other than this is the same as pelosi insisting she needs a jet, mainly because the good people of california are paying for it , ask her to pay for it and see how the story changes.
(2) another big question.......... how much to install the engine and will i be charged a dealer prep charge. new engine, oil , clutch adjustment ect ect ect. belt install and tensioning, ect ect ect along with the labor- any hidden charges , what are they! what exactly will i be charged for.
from harley site!
***Labor costs and any required gaskets/lubricants required to remove and re-install engine are not included. See dealer for details. ****
ask---- what gasket kits will i need to buy from the dealer to complete the install &cost , harley didnt write the above 4 their health , or actually thats exactly what they did.
what about rubber engine mounts, check yours before you submit the bike, do they need to be replaced, and what the hell is wrong with the old ones. are the old mounts still good, if you didnt look how will you know- read your service manuel, why dont you have one.
oh by the way are you charged the 25.00 storage fee or any fee ( per day per week)after the first 48 hours ( or any time specified)while your waiting for your engine if so why, after all your bringing them work ,they are not doing you a favor, your paying them. be respectful people dont like to be treated poorly.
Get it on paper/work order and make sure it is an agreed upon price, there is no qoute they are not doing any repairs they are only doing an install that should have defined book hours. i believe their old prices were around 4200.00 plain engine. if the labor and the new price add up to about the same , there is no savings, its the old price cooked to look like a deal in my opinion. Or perhaps i should be more business like , the new math of cost break down.
its been a while since i read the factor rebuild site, it looks like they drop the price on the twin cams by about 500-1000 dollars but remember , its the labor thats not stated that needs to be investigated , and it might be smart to get a guaranteed finish date set so things dont become negotiable as time passe's. if you do this it would be a good idea to get word of mouth from riders who do not work at dealers , harley or otherwise , as to who the top shop is , when you hear consistent reports from many different source then you have a shop with a solid reputation. when you get just one or two you can rest asure you are or were talking to a relative or friend, but if you can get 6 good reports that's consistent. solid hits, were the guys you talk to can and do say without reservation - hey these guys are on their game- that s the place to canvass. canvass!
i turned in a kawasaki for maintenance, it was an 1100 spectre. and the shop dented the tank, knocked the bike over by accident , hey it happens no problem fix it. then 4 days later the maintenance is not done and the side cover is missing. ok order the side kit , restore the fuel tank to what was there and get it done and return the bike as it was, guys were starting to use the bike for parts. I explained for them to do right and knock it off for some very good reasons and it would be the smart thing for them to do. im sure you all understand that. as for me i can find a brawl for free , i dont need to pay someone for it. i look for service and people who love bikes not problems , i feel good paying them for service , but the other i definately can live without. we work hard for our money and should expect value , so i dont mean to sound like an ass-whole , i handed my bike's down mostly in this life at a very good price to friend and /or relatives . i also make sure they get a ridable bike that they can have **** loads of trouble free fun on. because it there is one thing better than fun, its a **** load of fun.
