Anybody had the factory remanufacturing service done ?
Looks like a fair deal, but wondered if there were any bad experiences ?
Just found some oil seep @ rear base seal & thought maybe it was a good time to check it out. 42k 0n 98 FLHPI. I suppose the factory will use the "new" silicone seal ().
By the way my last post (40k on FLHPI) about cold idle trouble did turn out to be the ISC actuator. Replaced it & cold start is fine now.
thanks.......greg
Hi,gj
I don't know anyone personelly who's gone with the factory Re-Man deal...that I have'nt heard any sad stories going around about it.
But,at only 42-K miles I wouldnt even be considering a complete rebuild though...not over a crumby oil leak, anyhow.
Meanwhile,I went back to some of our older posts (easy to do) here...to refresh/confirm my memory re: your interest in upgrading to a mild cam & new Torrington inner-bearing...highly recommended.
Have you done that ? If so you might want to note that if you were to send your engine in for the Re-Man thing...you'd get it back with a new STOCK cam & bearings in it. If you have'nt upgraded the cam & inner-bearing yet (or even if you have) I'd suggest at this point to simply get that seeping fixed (incld'g a "why-not" upper-end overhaul while it's apart) and do (if not already) the cam & inner bearing upgrade at the same time...unless of course your engine has OTHER issues, not mentioned...

42K is fairly low mileage unless it's 42K of really Hard Mistreatment..
Get the leak fixed, do your light to Med mods and roll-on..
If you are not ready to attempt the work yourself you might consider researching and inquiring for the names of the most highly thought of motor builders around your area.. You can always have an HD shop do it but at least you'll have more options..

The H-D reman program is (unfortunately for independant shops) a great deal considering the MoCo replaces almost every part when you send in an older Evo.Usually you end up with new cases, and you always get new chrome.I actually recommend it for bikes with high mileage, but 40 k? I wouldn't do anything more than what everyone else has suggested on this thread, freshen 'er up and ride!!!
buddy had his done in december 2,800 out the door ,his bike had over 100, on it ,i was impressed by the performance and looks ,cant buy after market let alone installed ,warranty you get is a line of bs from most but S@S and jims if you can get them to answer the phone, base gaskets, pistons and rings porting a must for stock heads you will have 20 more hp good luck......branch
Awhile back, one of the esteemed writers of american iron magazine had sent in their evo motor for remanufacturing. maybe we can get his imput, I thought it was chris maida but not sure.
So, maybe he will read this and let us know.
From what i can remember, he had or bought a new to him early harley w/evo motor, you know, the ones with the weeping cases(porosity), and sent it in for rebuild(see remanufacture). They completely redid his motor w/new cases(same case number) new heads, new jugs, new pistons, but i think the crank shaft was reground and rebuilt, not new, and the rods where checked for good and reused. I believe the article stated he was very happy with motor.
Had my 94 FLSTC done in 05. Best money I've ever spent! Gainesville Fl. Harley did the removal and reinstallation, along with rebuilding the bike from front to back. They installed new bearings from head to swingarm, new clutch and primary, new throttle and clutch cables. They even reinstalled my aftermarket cam, carb, and aftermarket ignition. Bike runs better than ever. I have to agree that with the milage you have it does not seem that you need a total rebuild. Mine was remanufactured at 136,000mi.. I had a top end job done at 60,000mi.

Re: Harley remanufacturing 1340 EVO
My EVO has 74K on it and if it goes south will consider the re-man. But, you can't just pull your engine and run it over to the Harley dealer to have them send it out. The dealership has to do all the labor of R&R the engine does it not? I think I read where the reman was about 5K? Is that including the dealership labor?
