Default 93 EVO Engine Case Leak

Does anyone know if those engine oil leak additives might stop a slight seepage from the engine cases where they split on the underside of the block? A buddy cant afford to split the cases and trying to find a fix til hes back on his feet financially. Can any harm to the internal parts be done using a product like this? Botz

Jeez botz. I wouldn't use it. I used some in a car I had about 20 years ago. I am sure the products are improved a bit now..........But I had wear and tare in other places I did not know about. That stuff got in places it should not have. Shortly after I dumped it in the car started smoking and sounding ugly.

I drove a few miles and it quit.

I ended up putting in a new motor. Now I had to rebuild it anyway but that stuff made me do it faster.

Hi,Botz
Is the oil "leaking" from a gap in the seam where the cases meet or a small hole/crack in them...or is it "seeping" thru porous cases ??

3M makes a 2 part product called Metal Mend...kind of like JB weld only better. If its a small hole/crack I'd lean the bike as far and for as long as necessary to clean the spot with lacquer thinner and keep it clean enough to do the obvious. If it's due to porous cases I'd try cleaning the porous area the same way and working a thin exterior coat of the stuff into/onto the area.

Can't see how it could hurt anything...in fact worse case scenerio I'd expect it to peel right off (from too much oil in the porous metal) leaving your friend in no worse shape than he is...'cept for possibley having wasted a few bucks and a little time...right !?!

My air compressor developed a pin-hole leak on the bottom near the drain. I cleaned about a 3" area around it...put a light coat of the stuff on it...screwed a good size sheet metal screw into the pin-hole at the same time...let it set up...put another light coat over it...let it cure over night, figuring that should hold if for "awhile" anyhow...and that was about 2 years ago, with a lot more pressure on it than an engine case would ever have.

Definitly would'nt put anything IN the engine though !!!!

EVO,

Thanks for the advise. I had recommended JB Weld to him last year. I believe he was gonna try that this time but if you say the 3M is a better product I'll tell him about it. Thanks again. Botz

I used some stuff on the "outside" of my primary that was leaking. It was a (2) part mixture. I would not use anything as a Oil "additive" to stop the leak. Don't remember the name of the stuff I used. But it stayed on there for (2) years. Talk to a Auto Parts Shop.
