Re: Shold 10% ethanol gas be run in an Evo? Here in Florida all pumps now have E10 only. If your area still has real gasoline enjoy it while you can because the misguided treehuggers will eventually force everyone to use E10. They're already pushing for E15.
I say "misguided" because using ethanol neither saves gasoline nor helps the environment. The more alcohol content in gas, the less power your motor produces, therefore it must consume more fuel to go a given distance.
More gasoline is being used than saved by using E10.
Ethanol is caustic not only to rubber, it's also caustic to steel and aluminum, which are used in virtually all fuel systems. The more ethanol, the more damage. It can also corrode some types of tank coatings or "liners".
E10 has a much shorter shelf life than pure gasoline. If left in your tank more than a few weeks, you will experience hard starts and poor performance (even worse than with fresh E10).
All over the country people with boats and snowmobiles are being stranded and put in very dangerous situations when their motors won't start to get them back home. If you think this is just speculation, do a web search on E10.
So why are we being forced to use a fuel that does more harm than good? As usual, some well-meaning idiots in California came up with a harebrained scheme and their butt-buddy the EPA shoved it down the rest of the country's collective throat before examining or even considering the long-term effects.
And as usual, after being proven wrong beyond a shadow of a doubt, they continue to claim their bad ideas are really good ones.
Did you know that separating your garbage for recycling causes more pollution, uses more resources and costs you more than if you just threw it away? It's far more efficient and less harmful to the environment to make paper and plastic products from scratch than to make them from recycled garbage.
The only thing that doesn't cost more to recycle than throw away is aluminum cans, and that's by a narrow margin. But it's not the consumer who profits from recycled aluminum. Nor is it gullible treehuggers.
Which brings us back to ethanol. Treehuggers may have launched yet another lead balloon with E10, but they're not the ones profiting from our misfortune. And if you think getting treehuggers to admit they're wrong is hard, try taking away somebody's newborn cash cow. |
