After filling up yesterday I noticed that the gas contained 10% ethanol. Will this have any effect on an Evo engine? Ethanol free gas in getting hard to find around here. There is only one station that sells the ethanol free gas and that is where I normally buy gas but I didn't think about it until after I was refueled.

Hi haugster, I try without much success to use ethanol free fuel. I don't have an EVO, tried negotiating deals from time to time..they wouldn't deal, so by the time I purchased another new one they were Twin Cams.
I think 10% won't hurt much...eventually will harden o-rings in the fuel system faster than you would find otherwise, and a supposed drop in power and economy..not that I can tell personally. An additional problem is here in Missouri, thanks to the lobbyists they can put in up to 20% before they even have to tell you...at that point I would be concerned.

Here's a couple threads from this forum that I remember reading. I know one thread mentions E-85, and that is not what you are asking, but it is part of what is out there and is a possible direction fuels could go.
E-85 is a fuel that can only be run safely in vehicles designed for it..! It should be avoided like the plague for use in motorcycles. I have heard more than one horror story about it causing overheating and extremely rough running.
20% ethanol?????? Man, what's up with that?! I don't own anything that can burn it.
Shall I drain the tank and fill it with regular gas? Is there an additive available to add to ethanol gas to make it safe to run in the Evo? I misspelled the word should in the title of the thread and I apologize for this mistake.

The 10% stuff shouldn't hurt your Evo--- I've ran it in mine, and mine's uh.... well...... uh....... shall we say --- "not stock".
It's the E-85 stuff that's a problem. It says right on the pump that the fuel is for use in vehicles designed scefically for E-85 fuel.
A couple years ago, I went on a road trip back to the MidWest, and that's about all we could find in Nebraska, was 10% ethanol. Nowadays, it's everywhere, even here on the West Coast.
Hey haugster, I've run 10% ethanol in both my evo and twin cam on occasion when it was both handy and a necessity, and I experienced no grief whatsoever. Not that I would use it all the time, but up here our fuel choices are still reasonably good.
Are you enjoying that Heritage?
Thanks Big for those torque values concerning my primary, I'll use them next time.

Tommyglide, I am really enjoying the Heritage! I love the ride, handling and the power. I have plans on converting it to foot clutch, hand shift someday. I am having fun with it the way it is!

Jut run it and dont worry. There are no problems putting it in your motor as long as your motor is say... post 1990 or so. Maybe later. Remember its just a bit of achohol.
