I have been given an Andrew EV46 cam by a buddy. Brand new. I am currently running my 87 FLST built to specs Joe Minton ran in a series of articles for American Rider back in the early 90s. I put this together in 1994, and it runs great to this day. I freshened up the top end in 2004. The motor's got 10:1 compression pistons, a 3 angle valve job, Crane HI4 single fire ignition, Mikuni HS40 carb, and an Andrews EV13 cam. I'd like some opinions of how this setup would work on this bike with the EV46 cam.
I've been away from the forum for a while, dealing with the loss of a parent and my business. Its good to be back, and see some familiar faces and many new ones.
Welcome back, Trigger87. Good to have you hanging out with us again.

This is my Granddaughter Sky, age 7. Can't walk, talk, or feed herself but look at that smile. Anyone care to complain about their lot in life? Not me!

Trigger, the EV46 has fast open and close ramps. It is simular to the EV3 but higher static compression pressure for 6000+rpm with stock heads and hydraulic lifters and uses stock springs. Timing on your EV13 is 15/31 over 45/13 while the EV46 is 25/41 over 49/17, duration on the EV13 is 226 over 238, the EV46 246 for both. Lift on the EV13 is .485 over .495 while the EV46 is .495 both sides. It is quite a bit faster opening and closing than your current cam and the 10 or so degrees of duration might not give you the performance your seeing now.
Shovelmike and Tommyglide - thank you. We never know what God has in mind for us, we have to trust in His plan. Sometimes that is tough to do, but that is why He gave us faith.
HDDon - I scrutinized the specs on the Andrews site on the EV46. I was thinking that with the EV46 I could possibly pick up a little more top end, and that the high compression would carry the bottom end performance-wise. OTOH, I am concerned that the EV46 may be too much cam, and, like you said, I would experience a fall off in performance.
Trigger, why don't you give Andrews a call at 847 750 0100. they have been really helpful in helping me select cams for both of my bikes and the type of riding and performance I' looking for. Their also great online at Andrews Products - Main Page. Hope to see you in the wind soon.
