| | '95 FLHTC Ignition Switch Recall Just bought this 95 and catching up with the last recall, the ignition switch... What was the deal with this switch/recall? Was it shorting out or something? Musta not been too bad because the bike is still running and has not burned to the ground yet... Anyone know about this? Thanks.

| | Re: '95 FLHTC Ignition Switch Recall I have a 94' ultra and they did mine at the dealership for free. From what I understand the running lights were pulling too many amps straight thru the ignition switch what they did to fix the problem was they installed a new switch and a relay so that the ignition switch only activates the relay and the relay takes the load of the lights. And by the way I didn't have mine replaced until 2006. |

| | Re: '95 FLHTC Ignition Switch Recall That is so helpful. Thanks. I fueled up for the first time with the bike the other day and promptly found that the float was stuck. Wow! It overflowed off a lot of fuel. I noticed it when stopped for a light. I see this big puddle of gas beneath the bike. I'm, thinking, this is the first 20 miles I have put on the bike and now it's gonna go up in flames! But made it without the bike burning to the ground. So as soon as I get the carb back on I will take it to Freedom and have them do the switch repair.

| | Re: '95 FLHTC Ignition Switch Recall Since you are taking it to the dealership for the recall ask them if the recall on the pepcock (gas) valve was done they can tell by the V.I.N. number. By the way where are you located i'm in Phila. |

| | Re: '95 FLHTC Ignition Switch Recall I live in the Metro Denver, CO area. When I first got the bike I did have Freedom HD run a VIN check for outstanding recalls. Everything had been complied with except the ignition swith. After reading through my service manual it confirmed what I had suspected. This was a stuck fuel inlet valve. The float was servicable so I cleaned the fuel inlet valve and adjusted the float height. I squirted the crap out of it with carb cleaner. My petcock works great. I have evidence of this by all the fuel on the ground! The manual also suggests that there could be a tank vacuum leak too. I don't suspect this to be the case. I think that the bike sat for a long time before I got it. It didn't leak until I filled it. I think the very action of filling the tank may have washed some particulate that had settled in the tank into the fuel inlet valve. I think I need to make sure there is a filter downstream. Wondering if there is a petcock screen in the tank.. Regardless, once can't have too many filters!

| | Re: '95 FLHTC Ignition Switch Recall Part number 59 (cotter pin) in the shop manual, on the parts break-down for carb. Since I am new to harleys please forgive me not giving a more specific answer. Anyway, the small plastic part that is connected to the accl. pump via an L shaped rod? On the same plastic part is a spring is that linkage/rod passes through. The linkage that goes through the spring and into the plastic part. The spring/rod is secured with a washer/cotter pin. Sorry don't have the manual in front of me so I can't call out the right part names. Funny, the IPB (illustrated parts break-down in aviation speak) actually shows two cotter pins. One is inboard of the plastic piece and then the other as discussed above holds the spring. But there is no hole for the inbd cotter pin nor did I take out any inboard cotter pin. So the IPB may be old or something.. But I did take the cotter pin out of the spring. I have it in my parts container! Does that answer your question. Sorry so long...

| | Re: '95 FLHTC Ignition Switch Recall This bike stranded me the other day. I rode it to where I was going. Then when I went to start it again, dead as a door nail. 2 hours of tinkering and jumping it had no effect. Finally It started. While it was warming up, it simply turned off like someone had turned off the switch or hit the kill switch. Then it would not start again. Took the battery out and left the bike.
As the battery was two years old, I decided to replace it even if it were not the problem. Drove out to the bike and installed the new battery. click click click like it was a dead battery. So I started buttoning it up so I could have it taken to Freedom Harley. For some reason I decided to try it one last time... Started right up. I ran it 20 miles on city streets to the Harley dealership without incident. I stopped it there and went in to arrange to have the ignition switch recall done. They go Ok, bring it in.. I'm thinking, dudes, you are going to push it in. But it started right up.
They said that maybe the ignition switch could be causing all these problems and even keeping the battery from charging . I know all + - wires (starter and ground) were clean and tight. Hopefully I don't have a voltage regulator problem or something like that too. Anyway just wanted to say howdy to you guys. They should have the parts in today or tomorrow. Of course it is already snowing in the mountains here in Colorado!
