Default Has anyone ever installed an Evo 1340cc engine into a Sportster Frame?

I am just wondering what size engines are possible to fit in a Sportster frame. Thanks.

The 1340 or other big twins won't fit without major surgery to the frame. The big twins use a separate transmission, whereas the sporty is unit construction. To alter that would defeat the advantages of the Sportster, Light weight and precise handling. The best route to go if you want more cubes would be one of the sidewinder stroker kits from S & S. That way you have the attributes of a Sportster and LOTS of torque. Let us know what approach you take and how it goes. Kudos to you for doing a Sportster project; many of the snobbish sort treat it like an outcast. I have big twins and sporty too and respect both for their different type of ride.

I have been told that you can use the Buell Thunderstorm heads on a 1200 Sporty. Supposed to work better than Screaming Eagle and cost less. I'm no mechanic, just passing on what I've heard.

Like Shovelmike said S&S has lots of options. Even a 100" motor. The sidewinder 89" stroker kit is way less expensive. 92.4 hp 89 torque. 3 5/8 bore and 4 5/16 stroke. About $3600 for the parts. But it's only for 03 and before. I'm not sure it will fit the 04 and later.

Why would you want to put a big twin engine in a Sportster frame? If nothing else there is the challenge of the seperate tranny.

Actually the moco did it, it's called an FX. The FX doesn't exactly have a Sportster frame but the frame is closer to the Sportster than some of the other big twin frames. In the end all you would be doing is reinventing the Dyna if you put a big twin in a Sporty frame.

I once saw a Sportster engine in an FXR frame. Looked kinda funny but I dig wacky stuff like that. I guess he got the smoothness with the rubbermounted engine and swing arm. Of course that's just what the post '04 Sporties are all about anyway.
