Default Khrome Werks Slip on Mufflers

I have the '07 Dyna SuperGlide and am thinking of the 3" slash cut Khrome Werks mufflers. Their website seems to indicate that I don't have to mess with the EFI if I only add their mufflers and keep the air cleaner stock. Anyone out there that has done this? Results?

I have Khrome Werks mufflers on both my Sporties and like the sound.

Talking No EFI change

I rode my 07 Ultra the first 5,000 miles with screamin' Eagle mufflers and no changes to the EFI. I was going south for two months this last winter and didn't have the time to make other changes. My Harley dealer told me no EFI upgrade was necessary with a muffler change only. The bike ran great.

This spring I added a stage1 air cleaner and still no changes to the EFI. After many DYNO runs with 07 bikes this last winter and spring the dealer recommendation was not to change the EFI and let the o2 sensors do there job. The bike runs great.
I am not recommending no EFI changes if you go with a stage1 air cleaner on a 07, this is a decision each individual must make. It was recommended to me by my dealer and it works for me.

I've got 9140 miles on my '07 Super Glide with absolutley no top end noise. I get a little noise in 5th gear - not objectionable - just enough to tell me what gear I'm in.

I rode the bike to Texas (4671 mile trip) in May and June. The heat down there was unbearable to me. I did all my riding while in state from 5 am to about 10:30 am to minimize the discomfort. I never noticed a high amount of heat coming from the motor but I never had to endure stop & go traffic.

So far I'm completely satisfied with this bike.

I went ahead and bought the 3" Khrome Werks slash cut mufflers. I have put about 500 miles on them - what a great sound!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bike is running just as before with no pinging. The mileage is the same at 46 to 48.5 mpg range - probably the variances are due to temperature and wind strength, I always notice the colder it gets out the lower the mileage.

I am very happy with the new setup.

To the best of my knowledge the O2 sensors only regulate the air fuel ratio between a narrow band when the motor is turning at steady cruising speeds. I don't believe that the sensors play any part in fuel adjustment at any other time. The EFI and the fuel sensors are not going to adjust for changes you make to the motor. I'd double check what your dealer is telling you before you run into problems. If the bike has been dyno'd and the fuel ratio isn't exceptionally lean from the changes you made than I guess your OK. (Keep in mind that the dealers are not supposed to be making changes to the EFI and exhaust according to law.) With the way the new bikes are coming from the factory already set up lean I'd make sure that your pipes and high flow air filter are not making the motor run even leaner and hotter. I wouldn't take the word of any single person. Protect your investment and get a second opinion... get one here as there are many people on this site giving good advise. If I am wrong here someone please straighten me out as I am here to learn too. Thanks. Good luck and stay safe out there.

I was told by a respectable mechanic (Service Manager) that the o2 sensors and the ECU will compensate +/- 5%. The factory setting is 14.7:1 air to fuel. If you use an add on like the Fuel Pak from V&H it readjusts that ratio (with mufflers and high flow air intake) to 14:1 and still allows the system to adjust +/- 5%. This guy was not trying to sell me anything but simply giving me the straight up on what is happening with the system. I am not sure about other controllers though.

I did some reading up on this Soulman and you are correct. I just didn't think it was a good idea to change the mufflers and add a high flow airfilter w/o adding a fuel processor. I didn't think that the ecm and sensors could make swings that great.

I did not put a high flow air cleaner on the bike - just the Khrome Werks mufflers. The factory intake is still restrictive.
