Default Flashing the ECM

I was told by an HD dealer if I wanted to go to stage one the ECM could be reflashed for $150.00. He said when you want to change out internal engine parts then I'd need to purchase a HD Race Tunner or other fuel management device.
Has anyone else been told the same by HD dealer.

Default Flashing ECM

The Bike is 07 Ultra Classic.
I believe the dealer did mention flashing the ECM can only be done once.
He said if I were to change out the cam, or pistons ETC, then I would need Power Commander, Race Tuner or other fuel/air manager system.

Default Ecm Flash

If you never do anything else but the air cleaner and exhaust, then a stage 1 download from the dealer will get you in the ball park. Your engine will be a little lean, but you'll be within 10%-15% Torque, of what you would get with a SERT or PCUSB. That being said, if your ever going to do anything else then you might as well buy a SERT or PC and don't bother with the download. You can use the $150 towards the SERT or PC and either will boost your rpms to 6200.
The most imprtant thing is finding someone who is competent to help you with the one you pick. The PC is more user friendly and has more maps to pick from. The SERT is the way to go if your going stage 2+. Just my 2 cents.

If your never going to do anything but air cleaner and exhaust, then the harley download is the cheapest way to go. Your engine will still be lean and run at about 85% of what a Sert or PC would give you. If your ever going to do anything more to your engine, than don't bother with the download. Just get a SERT or PC. The PC is more user friendly, has more maps, and can be moved from bike to bike. The SERT is for anyone truly serious about getting every bit of power out of there engine. Both will increase your rpms to 6200.
Neither is any good if you can't find someone who knows how to tune with them. Just my 2 cents
