Hey all,
I want to modify my exhaust. Currently, stock except for SE air filter and SE slip-ons. Bike is an 02 Electra Glide standard. I am considering going striaght from the head pipes back, but don't want ot sacrifice power for the extra bark. I read an article a short time ago that said a splitter placed into a straight pipe can give just enough back pressure to give you the best of both worlds. The splitter was described as just a bolt throught the pipe and fastened in place. Anyone out there have any input or experience with this deal, or is it just as bad as I have always heard to run 'em straight??
There's nothing better looking than a set of drag pipes hanging off the side of your v-twin but sad to say it is as bad as you've heard! A splitter does work but only marginally. There are plenty of exhaust systems out there that will give you plenty of bark along with the bite. Cycle Shack[my favorite], Vance & Hines, Rhineharts etc, etc. The only thing straight pipes are good for is drag racing or to cut so you can put your stock mufflers on them[if you threw out your stock system] in case you get stopped by the EPA police and you need something to go thru inspection with.
Thanks Bud. Yea, I figured as much. Cycle shack huh? Heard alot about them, but haven't seen any. I see rinehart's all over the place around my area (I live in vegas), but haven't had any experience with cycle shacks other than a t.v. show some time back that rated them tops in power and torque, guess thats all that matters!! Thanks for the tip, I think I'll hunt some down and check 'em out.
Leave the Straight Pipes for the Strip. Unless you go Balls to the Wall all the time they are not worth it. You will Sacrafice on preformance and the sound will get you a ticket.
From my experience Vance & Hines will give you the sound your looking for, plus they are engineered for perfomance also. I may be wrong about this but have had nothing but good luck with the company.

I use the V&H slip ons and love 'em. Good performance gains and not too loud. Had a set of V&H straight shots on my Sporty too. Outstanding set if pipes.

What's the difference between these and straight pipes w/baffles? I had asked this question before but didn't get much response. I have V&H Longshots on the Fatboy and like them a lot. I prefer the sound without the baffles but the neighborhood doesn't, so in they stay. I noticed the V&H Slip-ons use a spiral baffle, my Longshots use a straight baffle. Does this help performance and are they interchangeable? Also, does anyone here have any knowledge or experience in shortening the baffles to improve performance? Probably need a Dyno to do this properly.
