Default 2008 harleys

After reading a tech article in AIM the April mag. I am wondering based on what they did with a S&S set up if I can put a new air cleaner and pipes on an 08 Ultra without adding a Power Commander or some otherfuel management system. In the artilce they mentioned the new ECM with O2 sensors can re-adjust itself. Has anybody had that experience and did it work out ok with the stock ECM?

Cool 07 Ultra

I have a 07 Ultra with S/E air cleaner and mufflers, stock ECM. My H-D service manager told me he would not add a controller, it would be a waste of money (unless I was to do engine changes). He said they have dyno'd many bikes with this set-up and a controller would help little, if any. He stated that the O2 sensors maintain the air/fuel ratio very well. I know that many riders do not agree with this, as the bikes are supposed to come from the factory lean and they add a controller. I have about 8k on the bike and it runs great. I know this is not a lot of miles, but so far so good. I am not in a position to recommend this, as I am far from an expert on this matter. However you asked if anyone was using this arrangement, I am, and so far I am very happy with the set-up.

Default @008 Harleys

Thanks for the info .I just ordered my Ultra and it will not be here until April 1st so I have some time to investigate. I will probably try it without a controler and see how it works.

Congrats on the new Ultra. For two up and long rides hard to beat. I hope you like it as good as my wife and I like ours.

Yes my wife is pretty happy about the new ride. I let her pick the color and the only bike that came in the red she liked was the Ultra. So we both get more than we wanted.
