Default V&H Dresser duals

I was thinking about installing the v&h dresser duals on my bike along with the oval slip ons. My local mechanic said I will lose midrange power if I go w/ true dual. He said the stock pipes w/ my oval slipons is the best for performance. He also mentioned the crossover tube is there for a reason. Wondering of any other thoughts? Thanks for any advice.

Exclamation I stand to be corrected

I found an old thread on this topic that may help. The cross over pipe your mechanic speaks of does have a purpose in a stock application. Slip ons alone with breather upgrade and remap (EFI) or jetting (carb) would complete the upgrade.

As I understand it, the stock set up gives the best of both worlds of low and top end power. Off the line the system works like a 2 into 1 system where most if not all exhaust goes out the right side pipe. From mid-range to top end, as the motor breathes heavier it will blow gasses out both pipes alomost equally. I think this is why I hear such a difference in the "growl" when I start winding her up. (bike not wife) When the HP starts cranking thats when the stock system acts like a true dual, so to speak.

For top end power you want true duals.
Low end off the line torque 2 into 1

If this isn't acurate I hope some one will clarify it but this is as I am told. Hope this helps.
cheers!

Given all that is mentioned here. Is the HP loss a life threatening situation. In other words, if it wasn't actually dyno tested woud the average rider feel this loss? That to me should be the guide line to do or not to do.

Thanks for the info. I'll be putting them on in the next few days and after some riding I'll post my findings.

Lightbulb its all about how much/fast you can go

goodole1 and Steelrider
Both good points and I agree. I don't think you would "feel" the HP as much as the torque. Torque gets you moving and HP will put you into the 100mph club. How quick and how far you want to get there depands on the set up. Dyno's for the most part is for bragging rights and to quantify the $$$ spent. IMO

Please keep us posted on your mods and let us know how the final set up works for you. It's always a great help when people follow up with their results after problem solving or researching here.
cheers!

Points well taken by both. I've been the devils advocate and I have to justify as many ways possible to release the moths from my wallet. I have seen small differences in Torque and small gains in overall speed by altering the exhaust systems. However, I can't honestly say in my mind that if I was to change my pipes for two such small consideration then I would rather say, I want it loud and mean. End of story. No pussy footing around. Loud and mean does not mean better performance by any means. No matter how you look at it, it's like the plague.... once you start it, you can't stop it.

All the above. The main reason I want duals is for the look and the customization. Don't want to look like a bike right off the showroom floor. I already have the oval slipons and fuel pak on since last spring and have been very satisfied. Like I said, I'll post my finding.

Thanks

I have an 06 Ultra, I put the on "Rush" slipon's.
I did not see too much of a change but I wanted the sound.
I could not handle the stock pipes any more.
I did pay for the change, $1100. Well worth it to me !
Very happy with the change, I love the sound and know people can hear me now!

I put the dresser duals on over the weekend and reprogramed the fuel pak. I've only had the opportunity to be out riding for an hour on Mon, Wed and today due to the weather here in Minnesota. Can't tell any difference in acceleration from a stop, which is good. It definitely has more power when going from 70 to 100 and I love the sound. It is more crisp and louder when riding, about the same at idle.
You can sure here the music coming from the right side of the engine w/out the crossover pipe there. That music would be noise to any other person that doesn't own a Harley and it's out of date motor design. But w/out that out of date motor it wouldn't be a harley would it?
Overall I like the look. Now I'm going to need some chrome to cover the bald spot where the crossover pipe was
