the question is do it yourself and save big bucks,or take it to the dealership, have them do the work, pay more, but still have your warranty intact??i still have 10 months left on my warranty, which makes me lean towards paying the dealership.the stuff i wanna do is relatively simple, new air cleaner, exhaust, and the fuel pack.(this part may sound like a broken record to some of you who've responded to my other posts,i apologize).obviously saving money makes me lean toward diy.do people generally encounter problems while within their warrany period?i guess basically what i'm askin is is it worth it to pay the extra bucks to have the dealership do it???
It is not uncommon at all for the dealer to do the work and STILL inform you that the modifications voided the warranty.
It's your call but I think it would be silly to pay the dealer a lot of money to do work that you could easily do yourself.

Please join me in this prayer daily.
This is my Granddaughter Sky, age 7. Can't walk, talk, or feed herself but look at that smile. Anyone care to complain about their lot in life? Not me!
Shovel is correct.. Sooo..
Think about asking your dealer if the mods you want done will void the warranty whether done by them or not..
A fuel pack might be something your dealer may even be prohibited from doing with todays Enviromental-Wacko restrictions..
If the warranty will be voided your answer is easy, DYI baby,, which is something I always encourage anyway..
There is no black majic to replacing an air cleaner or exhaust, a dime to a doughnut you'll find it easy.. A fuel pack on the other hand----um, a fuel pack to me is Burgers, beer, jelly doughnuts,, then a cigar and sippin whisky.. Yeah Baby..
There is no time like the present to become your sickles Chief Mechanic..

Last year I put on the V&H slip ons w/ the fuel pak and high perf air cleaner. I called Harley in Milwaukee and asked customer service if these mod's would void my warranty and they said it doesn't. I did it myself in about an hour.
Just last weekend I put on the V&H dresser duals to finish off my exhaust system. I don't know if this mod voided the warranty or not, but I don't care because the warranty is over for me this month.
just wanted to say thanks guys for all the advice,a couple days ago i ordered the v&h big radius 2-1,fuel pak, and ness big sucker from american classic motors ebay store, all delivered for $900.00,probably around $500.00 less than going through the dealership.now what do i do with that extra $500.00???hhmmm,tattoos!!!
Great question. Been riding these Harleys a while and I am a gearhead. I realize that when I bought my springer I would have no warranty because I do all my own wrenchin'.Real bitch is I have a Bro that pays through the nose for service at the local Stealer (In Scottsdale, Az) and they routinely deny warranty repairs for this reason or that reason.
Back shop is a real profit center for local stealers, but they sure charge a lot.
So far I have done the maintenance and the dealer has done the warranty work. I put the slipons, SE a/c and PCIII on. The dealer dyno tuned the PCIII since I don't have a dyno. No problems with warranty or recalls or TSBs from my dealer. The only reason I have the dealer do the warranty work is I feel like they should do something. Plus, they scrutinize the bike when I bring it in to find things that are need of repair or adjustment.
