Question Tail gunner exhaust

I have a question and I can't get a comfortable answer from the gear heads at the shop. I have an 07 Electra Glide Classic with a stock 96" engine. I really like the looks of the Tail gunner exhaust in the mag and, was wonder if the system would need to be re-mapped or any of that other O2 sensor stuff. Some of them say it is OK and others say no. I haven't ask dealer yet they're 60 miles away and most times won't answer questions. Any help would be appreciated!

Taking a step back, I see there's a bigger problem...

If the mechanics at your dealer don't want to answer questions, I think it's time to find another shop. An exhaust job may not seem that involved; but when it's your bike, it IS a big deal, and you deserve to have it done right. If they can't take the time to explain something to you, then why do they deserve your business??

Back to the matter at hand... I haven't done any exhaust work to my '08 (yet), but my understanding of the O2 sensors is that they are self-adjusting - to a point. You can't put straight pipes on the cycle and expect the O2 sensors to know what to do, it's just too much for the system to handle.

When I did the exhaust on my Softail, I put on a Thunderheader 2-into-1 (awesome!), hi-flow air intake, and went with the Harley Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner. There are other EFI modules out there that are cheaper to purchase and probably easier to work with, but the Race Tuner allows you to tune much more of the engine.

If you end up going with an EFI module, the cycle should really be dyno-tuned. Again, make sure you feel comfortable and trust these people with your baby. Look back in the mags about a year and a half ago, Donny had a whole series on shady dyno operators that were only interested in scamming your money.

Which TailGunner are you leaning towards? The Cannon style, or the Jet Engine?

Default Tail gunner exhaust

Jet Engine, I'm an old aircraft mechanic and they look just like the J-57P59W engine exhaust on the KC-135A aircraft that I was a crew chief on for many years.

Steel I'm aware of all the legal/illegal stuff I was just curious if the O2 sensors and computers had to be re-mapped or messed with any way. I really appreciate your heart felt concerns to be honest it really peaves me to no end what big brother makes us do day in and day out but if you don't pay taxes and don't speak English the whole country is yours. That's another gripe though. Thanks for the help.

It is my understanding that on the 07 - 08 models if it is just a simple exhaust change - the EFI will adjust itself. That is fine but as steel said - they are very lean from the factory and I have done a stage 1 on mine - it is worth the money to me - I took it to an indy dealer after the dealer did the work and had it re dyno'd - it was spot on. Now if it is a money issue so be it - but you need to remap the stock 96 because it is running to lean...the choice is yours......
