Default mufflers

I have a 1979 shovelhead with 1.75 inch drag pipes that are too loud for comfort. Does any one know if i simply add a couple of small mufflers if i will create a idle or running problem? I have a aftermarket c.v.carb setup that works excellent as is. Thanks

First of all jetting a carb properly with drag pipes is almost impossible unless you're setting it up for drag racing. The odds are you're running a little on the rich side now anyway so you may not have a problem. I would recommend cycle shack slip- ons but if you're looking for that classic look paughco has a nice pair of shorty goose neck slip-ons, but how they perform i don't know. The first thing you want to do is take a buds bike{as long as they're stock length},or even better yet go to a dealer with a tape measure and measure from the last bend on the exhaust to the tip of the muffler now take your new mufflers place them on your drag pipes to get the same distance, then mark your drag pipes, wrap a piece of tape around the drags and cut them. remember to take into consideration the amount that the pipe goes into the muffler. When you're done i can promise you that your bike will perform much better. It may not sound as fast but it will be!

What he said, and yes, it'll be faster in all ways, drags suck...
May I suggest NOT cutting any length at first, slip the new muff's on, clamp and mount em temporarily and see how it feels and runs, you can cut off length if you want later... If you do this experiment cut off no more than a couple inches at a time, then try it again,,, you'll find a sweet spot that your motor likes... I've done this several times so I know it works for me..
Those are good muff's mty suggested... The Krome Werks 2 1/2" HP-plus were my fav slip-on's before I took a torch to them, I screwed em up, but that's experimenting...
You've been running this way for awhile so, if you're not in a hurry, heck, do some experimenting, everything you do will be better than drags...
Prob don't have to tell you this but be sure your timing is dead on, no matter what exhaust/carb/etc... You may have to re-jet afterwards...
I'm still running my 1978 93" motor...
