Re: vance & hines sideshots Yes that is absolutely true..
You really must go and read more real actual literature & infomation about exhaust cuz on websites there's always some dickhead that claims he gets power outa 10" long 3" wide drag pipes..
You'll find that length and ID is crucial to perfomance..
The larger the ID/OD the faster the exhaust loses it's heat & velocity and must be pushed out by the next exhaust pulse from the motor..
This is also affected by length..
If the motor has to push out the exhaust you lose..
You will also find that ideal length & ID/OD retains heat & velocity & allows the exhaust pulse to actually suck out the next exhaust pulse from the motor which also aids with cylinder charge..
Now, to throw a wee screw in the works---- all that should be matched with cam, head flow, intake etc etc..
Try this experiment, it works for demonstrating how a carb Venturi affects velocity as well as exhaust ID/OD..
Light a candle and hold it at arms length,, now blow it out..
Of course you persed your lips together to do it..
NOW---- open your mouth as wide as you can and blow out that candle,, use all the breath you can blow,,,, can't do it huh..
Velocity baby.. You don't even need all your breath to blow out the candle the right way, justa wee blow will do it..
But everything you got in you lungs won't blow it out with NO velocity..
2 more things..
In the Operators manual with my S&S 113's they recommended running 1.75" exhaust system..
Ultima suggests using 1.75" with my 127" motor.. Sooo, whadaya think you need for a 96"..
I've done alota experimentation with long, fat, short, drag, baffled, mufflered, torque coned etc etc. exhaust---- jeeeeze, where did I find the time..??
Anyway, in my experince, the best power has always come from 1.75" headers with muffs..
Don't take my word for it,,,, read/research and experiment baby..
Knock yourself out
