Default Electra Glide rear pipe bracket

Hi All, I recently swapped out my stock headpipes for a Vance and Hines true dual set. Problem was that the rear pipe wouldn't fit withe the factory exhaust bracket ( the one that bolts to the starter), so I had to eliminate it. Anyone know if this will cause any trouble down the road? Seems to be fine, not shaking around, but I don't want to break a weld or something down the road.

A friend and I installed V&H tru-duals on his '01 Ultra and they came with a bracket to replace the stock one you're talking about. Problem was that the allen bolt holding the old one in place did'nt want to budge and as usual the guy was in a rush to get somewhere. So he insisted on just breaking the old bracket off (bending back & forth) claiming he'd get to it later.

Well...later did'nt come 'till about a week later when the R. pipe had worked itself loose from the exhaust port causing some "popping" and turning that pipe blue (under the heat shield) almost down to the muffler.

If I were you, I'd get with the place that sold you the pipes..or V&H.. to furnish the missing bracket

What do the guys at V&H have to say about this?

Thanks for the reply guys. Actually got the pipes from a friend of a friend, recycled. He didn't want them, so I snatched them befroe they hit the trash. Couldn't take leting them go, so gave it a shot. I figured the bracket might backfire on me, but thanks EVO for verifying it!! I think I'll fab one up this weekend before I blow something I don't want too!!! Thanks guys!!!

I'd give V&H a call. They'd probably send you one at little or no charge that fits exactly the way it's supposed to. Best to loosen everything up...fit everything together loosely...and tighten everything up in it's correct position. Otherwise you wind up with one out of place thing stressing another until something gives...especially on a rubber mounted engine's exh. syst'm...knowhutImean !?!

I've never worked with the folks at V&H on things like this. But I have with the folks at Kerker-Supertrapp and on several different occasions over the years they've sent me bits & pieces FREE for USED systems that were missing those things...rather than charging me their minimum $25** fee. In fact, just last year they sent me some mounting hardware for a '75 Honda 750 basketcase I finally got around to rebuilding & reconditioning after being "stashed" in my folks barn/garage for several years.

Worst case scenerio...you waste (?) a few minutes of your life on the phone you'll never get back...

I just bought a V&H Straightshot HS for my Heritage through Dennis Kirk. It came with no instructions, though. I got in touch with V&H, and they were very responsive. I had the instructions emailed to me the next day by their technical support folks. I am sure they can and will help with your situation.

Thanks for the suggestions. I called Vance and Hines today, and you all were right on the money. Guy on the phone knew exactly what I needed, should be here in a day or so, and only 15 bucks!! Easy enough, Thanks again!!!

Glad it worked out for you, eglide! You'll be much better off with a proper mount for the exhaust.
