Default Hacker Pipes?

I went to the EasyRiders event and was most impressed with hackerpipes booth and products. They even had lots of dyno results against competitors which were most impressive. But has anyone here heard their pipes? I know this is a "rider's preference" kind of issue, but tone is important to me. 2nd to performance, but still important. All input is much appreciated, as the last two sets of pipes(which I'm afraid to mention in this forum) were unbelievably CRAPPY!!! Excuse the french. And are they actually the only true 100% american exhaust? Thanks,
Shagg

I met the guy that builds them last week. he was pretty informative. with hackers as opposed to thunderheaders they actually lose a bit of power in the low end, right off the line, too much flow I guess. but in the upper low to mid to high end there are huge gains. the pipes look great and sound as good as a thunderheader. I will have my set on soon. pkus they have a lifetime warrenty, no one else does that. I have heard alot of peole saying that thunderheaders break a lot and I really want my set to last me a while, a warrenty is huge.

I bought a set of Hacker Pipes when it was still Hackerlabs. Put them on a stock motor 04 Ultra, with True Duals head pipes from V & H.

Sharp tone, and waaaaay too loud for in town use. Too loud for freeway use, also.

Put them on my stock 98 Road King, and they sounded perfect. Bit of a bark, but very nice at freeway speed. Idle too loud if you live in an apartment complex, and go to work at 5am. Put some stock tubes back on, and I noticed that the Hacker Pipes were in great shape, no discoloration, no chipping of the chrome. Cleaned them, and waxed them, will go back on next summer.

So, too loud on the Twin Cam, but just right on an Evo.
