Default Shovelhead Exhausts

Yes I know the design of how the exhaust is mounts on Shovelheads isn't the high mark of Harley's design, but we're stuck with it and most Shovel riders carry tools specifically for tightening it back up.

My question is what do you all recommend for a replacement pipe for a Shovel? I just bought an old beater and it's running some well worn straight pipes. Anyone who knows me knows I am not the kind of guy who runs straight pipes. I'd like a decent pipe that produces solid low and mid range performance but without a lot of noise.

2 into 2, or 2 into 1 is fine with me. TIA

While not exactly quiet, Thunderheader makes an awesome 2-1 system.
Sadly, the KhromeWerks ARII have been discontinued for shovels.
They were quiet and flowed very well.
All the 2-2 systems I have seen recently, That I could recommend, are Cycle shack systems, or Paughgo. Decent performers and relatively quiet.

If anyone else knows about other systems worth the $$ I really would LOVE to learn about them.
It seems like the Shovels are sadly falling off of the performance exhaust market radar screen.

I have yet to find a good exhaust for my 69 gen shovel. I've went thru about 6 different sets trying to find something that I was happy with. Currently running drags with eye bolts in the tips.

I'm a big Thunderheader fan. Unfortuantley they dont make one for my year. I've been thinking about buying one for the cone motor and modifying the front pipe.

Hey kats n kitties-- it was a long hard row to hoe to get back in but I finally got great assistance from Mike, thanks bud, and, for the words too...
I know myt evo couldn't get in either, I sent him what mike sent me...

The Kromewerks slip-on's were my fav, so I hope I can still find em later...
The Kromewerks slip-in baffles are still available, work good for me, put em in the 120"s muffs... They are 2" OD, had to finagle them to fit in the muffs 3" bodies...

In my catalogs, Thunderheaders won't fit shovels with floorboards... Soon however, I plan on using at least one set on one of the new builds, either mine or sweet-butts...

In all my exhaust experiments, I found the larger the muff the more power I got as long as I used 1.75" headers...
I've run the old-style stock shovel 2-1, I didn't like it, lost a group of power compared to a good set of 2-2's with decent free-flow muffs...
You could try what I've done many times, get 1.75" straights and slip-on good muffs... You most likely will have to modify some mounting brackets or, what I found to be very dependable for many many years,, the old 3-way frame clamps along with a lil imaginative metal bending and drilling, couple hour job, no big deal...
