Default Harley 45 Motorcycles WL, WLA, WR Servicars

OK kids, here's a new thread about Harley 45 ci engines and motorycles. They are 45 inch flathead V-twins, that the flathead K and later OHV Sportster evolved from.

These wonderful little Harley V-twins are pretty close to bullet proof when set up right. They were used for roadracers, dirtrackers (both WR), street bikes (WL), military vehicles (WLA) and police and civilian servicars.

Lots and lots of thses low compression (flathead) bikes wer built from the late 1930s until the 1960s, and just about all were mated up to handshift trannys.

Great source for parts and info on any of the old flathead 45 inch Harley motorcycles (I am not associated with them, but sources a lot of parts from them over the years) is the 45 Restoration Company. PO Box 12843, Albany, NY 12212. 518 459 5012 or visit them at www.45restoration.com

Can someone tell me why the small displacement, low compression 45s are shooting up in proice so much in the last couple of years?

I remember when you coudl buy one in decent running condition for $1,500 or so. Now the same bike sells for $15,000. What gives? They are fun little scooters but I don't understand why they are worth more then a decent Shovelhead or Evo big twin.
