Default Spammers

Not sure if there as been a rampant problem here or not. But noticed Macbents first 4 post are clearly spam. It's one thing to to pump a product you love like an oil, grip, seat or some other product relating to motorcycles in general, But cell phones from the UK.
Another forum i frequent started a policy of a 10 day waiting period before you can post a message. Most spammers wont bother with the wait and move on. After adopting this policy the spam level dropped to ZERO.

Where is administration on this? I joined this forum for discussion and info on H-D motorcycles, not to buy cell phones. If this is allowed what merchandising will be next. Will we need to use the search function to find anything Harley, and that won't work because they will put "Harley" in their advertisement. This isn't a rampant problem yet, but the trend has definitely has started.

I am the administrator, and I think you are overrecting a little bit. First, I deleted the cell phone message. Now I need to locate the other posts you mention and expunge them. We HATE SPAMmers here, and don't tolerate them even a little bit (When we find 'em, we permanently ban them -- no excuses). You should see all the stuff I do catch -- you'ld be amazed. One person mentioned I should have a ten day wait period for new members, but that is way too long, and detrimental to new members who have done nothing wrong. I prefer the way we are currently handling things. SPAM doesn't live long here. Rather than complain about it, please let me know how I can find it, and I'll cut it out. I go over the board several times a day to keep it properly pruned.

Default U da man

Mike, thanks for keeping the board as clean as humanly possible. I'll do just as you've suggested when, or if, I run across it. It has to be near impossible for you to catch everything. The ten day waiting period certainly won't work. I think you're doing the best that could be done. Mike, U da man!

Thanks for the kind words. We're trying to do our best. We don't want to penalize the new guys by moderating or restricting their posts (though some will get moderated when they include certain phrases and words associated with SPAMmers, or web links in their initial posts). We catch a TON of stuff before anybody sees it, but macbent was a pretty clever fellow. Somehow he managed to slip past the nets and post a bunch of bull$hit. He's permanently banned, but he'll probably pop up again under a new name. If you spot him, just let me know where he is, and I'll dispose of him. BikerBitch was kind enough to put me on to his scent (and SPAMmers leave a lot of scent) for his first posts.

I'm glad ADMIN you're on the trail of the spammers. I hope you're also looking at those pushing products over and over. I don't think it's an over reaction when everyday the daily posts have several spammer posts from the same spammer. I understand It's a big job, I was trying to get your attention, I guess It worked.
