So how do you submit a article for publication or is that a trade secret?
So after a little encouragement from my friends here, and after several AIM editors have ask for, submissions, I have spent the time and rewrote the ride up to Maxton diary and turned it into a article with photos and would like to submit it for possible publication as a tour article.
(Whew run on sentence.)
I have looked everywhere as to how to do this with no avail.
Finally found this link, about photo submissions. http://www.aimag.com/forums/guidelines.php
Gees haven’t felt this insufficient since my fourth grade teacher gave me the “What if you showed up to work without your hammer” speech.
Depth of field, use telephoto lenses, six different angles, three different exposures, cropping, color and contrast suggestions.
Then I look at the photos. Wow, nice, perfect photos, beautiful bike twenty different shots, all perfect.
Perfect shadows, contrast, white background on a colored bike, just like the suggestions.
Then I noticed the bike in the photo is a plastic toy Harley, Yea you heard me right, a "PLASTIC" Harley.
Man if they can make a plastic bike look good what can they do with a real one?
By now I am feeling, just about the size of the plastic bike, about two inches tall.
I can’t find e-mails anywhere, understand that, I have sent a couple of PM’s but don’t want to be a nuisance, figure you guys are busy, probably on dead line.
So here is the question, how do you submit an article for publication?
Or do I have to go to the post office and buy a stamp and send it the old fashion way?
HarleyCruiser:
We try to make the article submission process as difficult and complicated as possible. We don't want anybody upstaging our intrepid authors here.
Actually the process is quite simple. This is Chris Maida's, editor of American Iron Magazine, answer to your question:
All you need to do to submit an article for possible feature is send me a brief outline of what you have in mind.
If I'm interested, I'll contact you and we'll work the rest out.
Electronic stuff comes to chrism@americanironmag.com, while photo prints (if any) go to American Iron Magazine, 1010 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905, Attn: Chris Maida.
Cool, the article and photos are in two PDF format files. The article is already laid out around the photos so they can see what it looks like, can I send attachments to this e-mail?

Interesting! I'm not sure of the value of having your story already laid out, etc. We have a top notch art staff here, and we take care of that stuff ourselves. We are more interested in getting a quick outline of your ideas for the story (we might have done something similar recently, or are loaded up on articles of the type you wish to do -- several things go into the equation to print a story), and the photos you have available (by chance if there's a problem with your pix meeting magazine standards, they may require re-shooting, etc. We have had so many poor quality materials submitted for magazine publication in the past. I don't wish to imply that is the case here, but most people new to the publishing biz don't fully understand the needs of the editorial staff, plus press requirements.). All of that said, we haven't had anyone offer to send us a full layout of their story before, and it might prove a useful way to submit something, assuming it doesn't take too much of Chris' time to scan through your work -- which is why we usually like to get a brief summary of the idea. We would be more able to gauge the usefulness of the story. So I say, speaking for Chris (hope he is OK with that), send it in and we'll give a look (attachments should be OK, you may wish to put them in a ZIP file and send them that way as some attachments can get scrambled on ocasion). And good luck.

Well I laid it out because, well that is what I do, I is kind of a edeter me self (Sic)
This way I could see which photos looked best with the article.
PDF are just easy to print out with both the photos and the article. I have the original in Word if they want it.
Thanks for the get back as we say in the south, it is dun sent;-)

I am amazed at your acumen with the English language. That will impress all the editors here

My walking around name is "Mike."
Hannibal Lector told Clarice (Jodie Foster) to "Thrill me with your acumen" in Silence of the Lambs.
