Default alarm system failure on Ultra

I was traveling in New York City last summer and ran into a wierd problem. Parked near the Empire State Building, when I tried to set my alarm, it would not set. My friend could not set his alarm either. We tried reprogramming and resetting, but nothing worked. Called our local Harley shop and they had no ideas. When we moved three blocks away, the alarms worked just like always. Any ideas on what the problem was?

It’s not unusual for the alarm system to experience “interference” in busy metropolitan areas. The factory alarm system can be set or disarmed without the key fob by using the turn signals. The owner’s manual explains the procedure and requires you create a PIN.

LOL - whatever happened to a stout chain and lock?
better yet - under no circumstances would i ever park my ride in midtown unless it was safe and sound in an underground lot - an I was the one that parked it there - bikes are not safe left on the street in NYC..it is a sad but true fact, and this is coming from a native NYC'er...who is in the city frequently.... dont get your ride stolen!!

It is also not unusual, due to security, that various buildings scramble signals to prevent security breeches. A lot of garage door openers won't work around some Air Force bases due to scrambling.

I have the alarm in my '05 Road King with the pager...no audible. I have to say I wasted money on this. Alarm only works sometimes. Seems to have mind of its own. Has nothing to do with location for me anyway. Sometimes even in my own garage the thing wont work. Took it back to HD and they're just as clueless when it comes to these alarms. Told me nothing was wrong and as soon as I got home it failed again. Good Luck....

Thanks for the information. Would like to hear from someone who lives in a larger metro area like NYC to see if this is a common problem for them.
