Default Turn signals

I'm curious about how the automatic canceling turn signals function on my 2002 Sporty 1200. If you turn a signal on while stationary it continues to function until you roll through the turn. But if you rolling and are approaching a corner it seems to function for about 50 yards. When I'm on one of these four lane roads around here I would really like to give the tailgating cager behind me more warning that I'm planning on making a turn. Is there any way to adjust this system?

"Yep"...what Steel said !!
I just keep my thumb on the button 'til I'm almost into the turn or lane change.

The old system using momentary contact switches as on the 85 Sporty are quite suitable once you are accustomed to them. Many moto-journalists didn't like them but I can hold the turn signal on with my thumb, blip the throttle with the palm of my hand, and apply the front brake with my fingers- all simultaneously, an acquired skill which is satisfying when you master it.
