Harman-Kardon radio Hi All -
This is (obviously) directed at riders that have '06 and later Touring models.
I swear I have a CD player that's possessed.
I have a pretty extensive collection of music in MP3 format, so when I picked up the Electra, of course I started burning mixes on MP3 CDs to play in the stereo - 100 songs on an MP3 disc vs 15 on a standard audio mix, this is a no brainer.
There's certain songs this thing just won't play. What usually happens is a song will end, CD will advance to the next track, the display will either read Track 005 or actually show the file info, IE: 005 Smoke On The Water, and within a second it skips ahead to the next track.
So far it doesn't like any Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, Creedence, Traveling Wilburys, Eagles... the list goes on.
First I thought I was too close to the capacity of a disc; cut the list down, same thing. Then I took all the tracks on one disc that wouldn't play, and made one disc of that - the thing freaked out, it didn't know what to do. Bought a whole new spool of blank CDs, same deal.
Then there was the disc that played fine (except for skipping certain tracks) until it got to around track 104, at which point it just stopped playing altogether. That coaster is laying somewhere on the side of a Pennsylvania back-road.
I also have had a few instances where I shut the motorcycle off with CD playing, and when I start up again, the radio is either switched to AM, FM, or WB. Sometimes if I cycle the mode to CD, it won't recognize there's a disc in the tray, unless I eject and load it back in.
I think I once tried burning a CD on my computer at work, and had the same issue, but not really sure, so I think I will give that another shot soon.
My girlfriend has an MP3 CD player in her car, so I'm going to try playing a disc in her car and see if I get the same results.
I don't want the clutter of an iPod on the dash (already have one in my truck), I'm not wild about the XM upgrade (my shop is Sirius all-day), and there's no way I'm pulling over every 65-80 minutes because the CD ran out.
I'm riding this cycle since February, and this is my only gripe. It's not even like I can say the stereo is malfunctioning - it works fine, it's just that we have some different tastes in music...
So the question I poll the audience with is, if anyone else has experienced something similar, and how they dealt with it, or if I am just alone and insane in this.
