Default Help Please, 1995 Sportster electrical problem

I have a 1995 Sportster 883. For a the past few months, the left turn blinker, when turned on, would flicker intermittently. I recently changed the battery due to another issue.

After riding home from work, I stopped at a store. When I came out, and hit the starter button, nothing happened. I was able to jump start the bike by putting it in gear and pushing it. On my ride home, I had no lights, and no speedometer. The neutral light is working, as is the check engine light. I was planning on taking it to the local Harley dealer for repair, but they are only taking appointments two weeks out. I can't go two weeks without my motorcycle. Can anyone tell me where do I start?

Welcome Joe. Start by doing a visual inspection for broken, loose, or chafed wires. Unplug connectors and look for corrosion. Especially check the breakers under the seat, any failure there would knock out a lot of things. If you have a multimeter see where you have power and where you don't. If you work methodically and use logic you will track it down and won't need the dealer. Best of luck! Ride safe (you will soon) God bless. Sincerely: Shovelmike.

Default No lights

Hey Joe,

You should have a trouble code stored in the bikes memory. A jumper wire is needed to put the bike into decode. You simply count the number of times the check engine light flashes and look the number up in the factory manual.
I can probably scrounge up the info in a day or so. If someone here has a factory manual for a 95 it would help. Try this before you unhook the battery
sinc that may erase the trouble code.

Talking Re: Help Please, 1995 Sportster electrical problem

sounds to me like it could be a grounding issue as well.

When i first purchased my bike i had a like problem, after investigating all grounds for the blinker i removed the lense cover and found that the previous owner of bike had replaced the bulb at one time, with the wrong bulb... they used a two prong light... like brake and blinker or brake and running light and kinda jammed it in so it would work because of the two contacts and broke the assembly.. you know ...push light in and turn slightly? I went to kragen and bought a new assembly...two wires.. spring..contact and socket and replaced. haven't had a problem with it since.

hope this helps!!!!
