I have a 2001 xlh1200c sportster that starts and runs beautifully for 10 to 20 minutes and then just quits. She will not startuntil After sitting for 20 or 30 minutes and then she runs beautifully and then shuts down again. Last night when this happened I pulled the plug wire and had no spark at the plug. Got her home and today she started and ran beautifully and then did the same thing. What could be heating up and cooling down? All parts are original since 2001. What needs replacing? Bike has 8000 miles and has run perfect until now. Thanks

My first suspicion would be the ignition coil.
They warm up when in use and it sounds like yours develops a problem. It could be a internal short or open circuit. After it cools down everything is ok untill the next warmup.
Diagnosing this requires an electrical meter just after is "fails", while still hot.
The next thing to check would be the ignition sensor in your engine. Over time they can get heat sensitive too, pretty much the same symptoms.
Typically though, if the sensor is going bad, they will start leaking green goo out of the sealant right where the wires enter inside them.
