Default Turn Signals took a dump

Here's one for you to chew on: I have a '99 FXSTC which I bought from my brother. He had mounted the little kind of bullet shaped turn signals on the back but switched them back to the original signals before I took it. Well, about a month after that the turn signals and speedo started acting up. Speedo was erratic when it worked but mostly didn't work. Cleaned the sensor and checked the wiring and a friend told me it was the voltage regulator. Swapped that out and now the speedo works fine. Now, the turn signals is another issue. I have a left running light, nothing on the right. I turn the signals on and they burn fine but won't flash. 4-way flashers work fine. I've done everything but re-wire everything. An old school mech swore up and down it was the turn signal module. So, I bit the bullet and dropped $149.00 for a new one (stealership-only part, natch.) and no luck. Still the same problem. I've replaced both switches, cleaned the contacts and replaced the bulbs, checked for breaks and problems with the wiring, and I'm at the end of the line with this one. Short of taking it to the dealer (don't really want to do that) does anyone have any ideas on this one?

Don't know if you've already done this, but check to make sure the correct bulbs are installed (1157 frt & 1156 rr) some of the heavy duty bulbs available will cause this condition even though they work on 4-way.Also try grounding the directional shell itself with a jumper wire,it's possible during the switch that the dedicated ground was compromised. One more thing, examine the contacts in the bottom of the socket,I've seen them get misaligned several times.

Thanks, Ace, I'll give that a shot. When you say "during the switch" are you meaning when I switched voltage regulators or something else? I can't swear just what bulbs are in it but I think they are right. Can't really check it at the moment as I am in Iraq. The thing that baffles me is, the 4-way flashers work fine! Would that necessarily cancel out your suggestions? What about the speedometer? Could something have gone haywire in there when the voltage regulator took a dump and messed up something with the turn signals? I swear, this sounds like a made-up problem but it's not! I sometimes get to thinking on it and give myself a freakin headache! I checked the trouble codes and it had 3 or 4 but the cancelled out alright and didn't come back. Thanks alot for reading this. I was about to give up on anybody having any suggestions!
