Default 2001 XLH Tach Bench Test

Hey all,

Anyone have a procedure for bench testing a tachometer? Not my bike so dont have alot of info. I do know it runs through the speedo. So both have to be plugged in. Test meter numbers, etc? The manual has nadda. To clarify...tach not working at all.Thanks. Botz. Thanks Psycho!!

I could have used this when the tach in my boat quit.....

although I aint too sure about hooking up a battery charger to a tach.

My normal thought is "If it is broke now; I cant break it any more"

Spoke with my buddy last night. More info. He just wants to know if there is a way you can hook power up to see if the needle moves at all. He thinks the tach is toast but not positive. Can you hook direct to a 12V source and get some kind of needle movement?

No expert here, but the tach reads the pulse of the coil.
So........ without some sort of pulse like Uncle was talking about.
I have always bench tested them, well on the car/bike, but been many years since then.
