Default Switching out Speedo's

I am brand new here & have never been in a forum before. So I hope I get this right. I have a 1999 Dyna Superglide that I am trying to put a speedo off of a 2005 Screaming Eagle that I purchased at a local swap meet. Ofcourse the wiring is different in the 12 point plugs, but I was also told that the Screaming Eagle speedo uses a "BUS" wire and the old one doesnt. I was told that it could be done but good luck on figuring how to do it. Does any one have any good advise out there in internet land?

Welcome to the forum and you're doing it right! I'm glad to see the question isn't referring to your choice of swimwear I'm sure one of the good wrenches on the forum will be able to walk you thru your switch, give 'em a little while to respond. By the way, where you at out there?

Your best bet is to compare the wiring diagrams between the 99 & the 05 & make changes from there.I converted my 99 E.G. to an electronic speedo when I installed wheels & forks from an 04,the wiring was pretty consistent between models so it wasn't a huge deal.Good luck.

P.S. I'm really cautious about buying used electrical parts and,unfortunately,H-D speedometer heads have been known to have a fairly high failure rate.I hope you don't go through a bunch of work trying to make a defective part work.

I am no Speedo expert, or electrical expert, but, the Bus speedo is completely different that the old speedo.
I wanted to put the V-Rod gauges, interment cluster, in my bike, and did a little research on this.
This how it was explained to me by someone much smarter than me.
The serial bus wire system uses one wire that goes to all the sensors, components and it uses the computer to figure out the signals, instead of a bunch of wires that go to each seperate system and is designated to that system
To change it you would need to change the computer, good luck, learn how to do it then you can be the Speedometer expert in here.
Oh yea welcome to the club.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I am still doing some research on this. I still am a bit puzzled because both of them have 12 point pin plugs on them. I will leave tips on here as I get it figured out. (if it is possible) Until then I will happily take any suggestions that any of you have. Thank you!
