Default 1995 Wide Glide Weird Failure Problem

I have a 1995 FXDWG and it has about 49K miles on it. It has started to shutdown when I am going about 65-70 miles an hour recently. The bike just fails and if I turn it off and then back on it starts and then may be ok for a while. The strange thing is that it does not do this if I stay below 55 or so just cruising around. I have had the Stater changed and the bike examined. The problem is that the techs nowadays just want to plug in and see the code. My year bike does not have that ability.

I do not want to keep taking it back to Harley and have them just start replacing things. I also thought that it could be the carb as well.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated

Check all of your harness ground (negative) connections starting at the battery.

Yes, check that and---

Will it start immediately after it stops or does it make you wait a few minutes... Do you hear any clicks..??
If you must wait a couple minutes I'd suspect a circuit breaker shutting you down...
If only at speed, perhaps a charging prob, or a short that doesn't make contact and short out till the vibrations of speed... Keep feeding us info...

Doncha just love those new techies...

My stock ignition module went in '96, and it acted strange. Some times it would cut off. Sometimes it would only allow me to go 50 mph, and when I cut the bike off, it would take a few minutes, and start like nothing was wrong. Then, run great for an hour or a day. Just something to consider if the other suggestions fail. An ignition coil on it's way out could also give you grief like this. Good luck, and let us know wut you find!

When I converted my Bike to a 1200 also install the SE ignition Module. Worked fine at first then my bike would cut out around 60. It would die and not start until I turned the key off and back on. I believe the software built in that controlled the rev's of the motor was toast. They gave me a new one and sent the old back to HD. Around 15,000 more miles and no issues.

You can buy the equipment/Software to decode messages. Its a little expensive.

Great suggestions...the bike actually dies and then I turn it off and then back on and it starts again.....I will start with the wiring harness and then probably go to the ignition coil
