Default Current project...almost there!

I am getting real close to being done on this bike, I think about another 2 weeks(if all goes well). To refresh everyone on my goal: I wanted to build an "old school" chopper, something '70's looking, but with good handling and some modern features. I wanted it to be a long bike with kick start only.

Here are some of the specs:
Rolling Thunder frame with 50* rake, 6"up and 3" out
1980 shovel - 80ci, Dyna ignition and S&S super E carb
5 speed Ultima tranny with Custom Chrome kick start conversion
BDL 3" open primary with BDL clutch
80 spoke Dna wire wheels, 21" front and 180/18" rear
Redneck Engineering springer(about 21" over) with 16" apes on 1" risers
Badland digital mirrors
All House of Kolor paint - Organic green fading into Oriental blue, both over Orion silver with silver mini flakes over the base then blue/green pearl over the lightning bolts.
I still have to cut and weld the rear exhaust pipe, finish some wiring and install all the cables and lines. Then it's go time!

Maxxdog, nice bike, real nice look.
Can't tell, but is there any rake in the triple trees?
That is a lot of rake in the frame without having some in the trees to adjust the trail.

There is no rake is the trees at all, it is all in the frame. The front end is custom built for the bike by R.E. After I had the frame specs and knew the tire/rim sizes, I called RE and gave them all the info including ride height. They punch it all into the program they use and build it to give the best trail and handling. They adjust the front end length and the rocker length to make it perfect. That way you just bolt it on and go. Of course... if you measure wrong or your frame shows up different... that would be another story!

Max as long as it was figured in while they were designing it you should be fine.
I’m sure they know a lot more about design than me, or at least I hope so.;-)
A lot of guys building old school bikes get front ends off of e-bay or will just order one from the chrome catalogue and run into trouble with handling.
Be sure you keep us informed, love reading about people working in there garage building real world bikes.
Love that green, especially with the flake.

Wink Re: Current project...almost there!

Maxxdog21, gorgeous bike! That is exactly how I want to build mine when and if I ever get the $$$ to do it! Only difference is I would have a 3 foot sissy bar and a King\ Queen seat and it would be Candy Apple red metalflake! Let us know how she handles. I like your idea about having RE figure out the proper rake/trail on the front end! I am taking notes!

That Bike Is Bitchen! while we are talking 60-70's!
