Default Oil pump/pressure

I have a 1980 sporty, engine is totally stock. Been having a problem
with the front cylinder exhaust valve, replaced the rocker arm and
pushrod. Started the engine, everything was going well until the
engine began a strange noise. Shut it down, noise began with metal
expanding and contracting. Removed the front rocker box, everything
was OK but found no oil in the rocker box.
Checked the oil ports in the rocker box and the oil line to the front
head, everything is clear. Turned over the engine and there was no oil
from the oil port from the cam case. Did not pull the rear rocker to
see if that is OK. Started pulling the oil pump apart, found the oil
switch to be bad.

How do I test the oil pump to see if it is working correctly? What
pressure should it be. I am not sure if the port from the oil pump to
the front port is clear. Can I remove the oil pump without pulling the
engine? what could be the problem?
