Default Motorcycle Innovations Oil Cooler

Has anyone had any experience with this oil cooler?

It is a little more than a Jagg which I understand is very good.
The MI version uses an aluminum body and also offers an angle offset for the filter. I cannot say it would actually work better but the offset might make filter changes easier and reduce the tendency to unscrew the adapter.

Yes, and I love it! I presume you're speaking of the finned cylindrical housing that attaches to the left down tube... This was the only way to get a thermostat behind the oil filter on my evo.

I was using the old style lockhart for a sporty, which was okay, except you had to cut into the hoses, and it just hangs there.

M/C innovations oil cooler cleans all that up, and did a great job of cooling. I didn't think it would, since no air passes thru it. It's a finned aluminum cylinder with passages thru it internally. None external. When we went to Florida this summer, we rode thru some good heat, and my bike was very happy.

Installation is pretty straight forward, but I forget if it's offset. Has nice braided, tho not shielded, oil lines. Looks as good as an oil cooler's going to look. What are you using it on?

I have an 07 Wide Glide and live in Houston.
Traffic is murder here and I want to install a cooler before next summer which starts about May for us.

I know the 07 models are supposed to run hotter. So far it hasn't bothered me but I want a little insurance to keep the oil doing what is supposed to do.

I just don't know about the HD cooler which mounts below the regulator.
It seems too exposed.

I wish there was a better picture of the Motocycle Innovations set up. It is the aluminum thing with fins that you describe and mounts on the down tube.
With the forward controls on the WG, I want to make sure I have enough room.

I would like to see one on a bike so if you have a way to post a picture I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for the response.

It was been the concensus on some of the other boards that the cooler wasn't necessary. I live in Florida and ride a 2007 Ultra - it is hot! The engine that is.. I also have a friend that lives in Houston that has an 08 Ultra and we have been discussing the oil cooler issue. I saw this post and e mailed them for some installation instructions for an Ultra - I will see if they get back to me. A lot of money for questionable results.....

I'll do just that, soon as I get the chance. It'll be tonite, just not sure when. I like it, and I don't think it'll be in the way of forward controls, looks like enuff room, but never had a wide glide, so I'm not sure.

Have you looked at the hd cooler for a heritage? It mounts real high, between the down tubes. I think it has less surface area, but that may not make much difference. I've never liked the cooler that low either.

The words " consensus on other boards" tells me you have no experience, big texan, and I think you told me a big ol' fish story when I asked about your hd wrenching before, in the gear drive posts. You built what? Like 5 engines, right? And, just like with the gear drive, you don't automatically know it's better with a cooler? You need a general consensus to know what to do?

Whatever... Again, good luck, you'll need it. If you've gone thru that many bikes, yer right, you don't need a cooler, you need a Honda.

Why are you wasting m/c innovation's time, if yer not interested?

Anyhow, spade5, I'll have to try tomorrow. Too slow of a connection to post pics. I'll include one of the heritage, I think you'll want to look at it as well. Take care, and be careful of the things yer told... check it out before jumping, cuz these dudes aren't there to hand ya wrenches or cash.

since someone asked the question - I got to looking at the cooler - I asked for instruction and below is what I got. Needless to say - for the amount of money - I would have thought they would ahve been better and included some pictures...maybe I expected to much.??????

I think you have me confused with someone else - I have never claimed to have build 5 engines? Where did you get that Idea? You have never asked me about my wrenching - WTF???? sorry to have made you mad about something but it weren't me. I don't wrench unless I have to......

I do post a lot, and I am not perfect. I have looked for the particular post, and can't find it. When I do, I'll let you know somehow.

If I have you confused you with someone who has crossed me, I SINCERELY APOLOGISE. I generally don't throw the first rock, and it wasn't just this post. In fact, it's been a few.

Again, if it's not you, I hope you will accept my apology... Sorry, big texan.

I agree about the instructions... they were very minimal. No torque values, no pictures, or suggestions on mounting. The construction of the adapter could be a little beefier, and I had to shim the lower downtube clamp. Very minor, actually. Lots of aftermarket stuff needs some sort of massaging to get the fit/ look I like. I am very pleased with the cooler. I too wish it was cheaper. I had been looking at it, over a couple weeks, then one day my wife just ordered it for me. I think she got tired of watching the struggle.

Again, big texan, I am sorry for the mistake.

No problem - I don't wrench - I don't have the time ..... I like stuff I can do pretty quickly I just changed out my standard speakers on my Ultra for the Hogtunes - really did make a difference.

Living in Florida - having an 2007 Ultra - with the heat issues I am looking at anything that will lower the heat. The wife complains about the heat on her left foot..... even the guard around the saddlebag is really hot.........

no problem 94 - just here to learn and have fun.........
