Default Oil Pressure

Can anyone tell me what the pressure should be cold and warmed up(1996 Evolution). I do not have a gauge yet but I will, Haven't decided what style to use. Does any manufacturer make a setup like the shovelheads used? I like the gauge attached to the rocker box.

The oil pressure gauge on my Heritage is mounted on the rocker box. I got it through J&P cycles 13 or 14 years ago, and have had no problems.

The pressure cold is usually around 30, on this gauge, warm at idle is around 10. I do not pretend to think that the gauge is completely accurate, but I think its in the ballpark.

Arlen Ness has a pricey piece for sale, if you want to go high end. I think Harley has a pretty nice mount and gauge for the Evo, too.

Hope this helps.

Rick

As an Engineer on a Diesel Engine and this rule for applies on any Internal Combustion Engine Oil Pressure should be 6 lbs Min at it's hottest idle and while may be exceptions usually 50 is the Max.. 20-40 should be a good running Pressure at Normal Operating Temp

Default Got my gauge

I installed my new gauge on Saturday. It is the one that takes the place of the tappet screen cover. Actually opted for this one over the one that mounts to the rocker cover. It stays tucked out of the way yet I can still see and read it while moving. This gauge came from Harley and was actually the ND one. The first one was installed by the book and did not work. Kind of scared me at ST, NO OIL PRESSURE! Turned out to be a bad gauge. I even hooked it to a nitrogen tank and it still did not move. At least they honored the warranty. I figured it would have been void since I (NOT A PROPERLY TRAINED HD TECHNICIAN) opened the package and installed it.
