Default H-D lcd digital oil temp guage/dipstick

I have two, one for my sporty and one for my electra, the sporty's two years old and still works pissah (new englander for good) but the one on my electra is only half a season old and is dead. does any one know if there is a way to replace the batteries in these? are there batteries in them? do i have to shell out another $100+ for a new one for the electra? i find they are nice to have, especially in the summer new england months when the humidity can get up there its nice to know where my engine oil is running.

There is a small screw on the bottom side that you have to remove to partially disassemble the unit. It contains a battery similar to that in a watch.
If you are like me these days have good lighting and your bifocals. Take your time and you should be in good shape.

I have a Analog.

You can see em riding down the road if you lift a cheek move, a leg and bend down. I would not recommend unless you are stopped.

All bikes will read a bit different depending on the mods. I would not be surprised if the gauge itself reads slightly different from another.

I check mine once in a while when I fill up during a nice long ride. I only look to see if it is way off the normal mark. To me they are just a worry flag. Your bike will let you know if it is having issues with the oil. I would not waste my money again on a Oil temp gauge.

I also have an ultra and the digital oil temp. guage. Just replaced the battery in mine there were three screws to take out after you removed the rubber gasket. Be VERY carefully when you separate the two pieces because there is a wire that connects them together. Once you get it apart replacing the battery is simple just Be carefully of the wire.

And no you shouldn't read it when your driving down the road . And the temp depends on the bike and what you have on. My ultra runs 212 to 220 normally. The dealer says to note your normal temp and if it starts to run hotter to bring it in and have the motor checked Before something bad happens..
Plus it looks allot better then the stock dip stick LOL
