Default TC88 Oil Pump

beleive i read in AIM that when you change cams that you should also change oil pump. I can't find the article or issue if anyone knows , please let me know. Beleive it gave a mfg. and model # to change to. 2000 FXDWG 28k miles.

Changed cams in my twin cam about 3 yrs ago.You have to align the oil pump when you put it back together,pretty simple,but there's know reason to replace it.I don't think you need gear driven cams either,at least not on a street motor.I used tw55 cams and the heads have been ported,bigger valves,stiffer springs,no problems for 3 yrs now.Runs as good as ever and haven't replaced the shoes yet.I'll probably replace the shoes this yr but no big deal and not much money.Buy the way,If you're using very much cam you'll have to grind some clearence from the case for the rear lobe,also no big deal.

Changing the oil pump is a matter of preference and money. There are 2 options in replacement really - Feuling's pump - which fits in the stock place in the cam case. The other is S&S's special construction - which includes gear driven cams made specially for it, you can't get Andrews cams made for it. Personally I think gear drive cams are better, less loss of power in cam drive system, plus the tension on the parts with a chain drive may add debris to the free spaces in cases (and into the oil).
