Question Dip Stick In or Out

My question is I have a 2000 Road King and I brought it used with no manual. So I picked up a Haynes Service Manual and it says concerning the dipstick "don't push it all the way in, lift it out and read it." The dealer says push it all the way back in and than pull it out and read it and also the manual says 3 1/2 quarts and the dealer says 4 quarts. So what is the correct answers. Thanks!

Exclamation

Never TRUST the Haynes OR Clymer manuals for anything. I've come across all kinds of errors in them over the years..incld'g (not limited to) illustrations/diagrams that just were'nt right. Go with the factory manuals,etc..everytime.

A Haynes Service Manual, should only be used as a second opinion.
If you are doing your own service get a real Manual, it is worth it.
