Default Oil Dump?

OK, so ou change your own oil and do it as per the book. So what do you do with the old oil you drain out of your scooter?

Don't want to toss it out or leak it into the local water system.

So what do we do with our old and used engine/tranny/fork oil?

Wal-Mart will accept your oil for recycling as will O'Reilly and some other auto parts stores. Tranny and fork oil can be mixed in with no problem, I just wouldn't complicate things by emphasizing that it's a mix they just get nervous in fear that someone might slip in toxic PCB transformer oil or something of the sort.

I dump mine at the recycling place a mile up the road. If I did not have that luxury, there are a few Auto Stores and Service Stations in town that take it for free. No issue getting rid of oil the correct way. I dunno what I would do if there was no clean place to dump. The neighbors basement window well?

Take it in to be recycled. Any place that does oil changes or sells oil should take it. I have seen "some people" dumping into the storm drains of all places. You know where that ends up.........in our water!

I just dump the old stuff into 5 gal. buckets (with lids) and a friend who owns/runs an auto-repair shop occasionally picks them up (maybe 1 or 2 a year) on his way to work. Because some company PAYS-HIM something like 50 cents a gal.for the stuff that he accumulates in a 200 gal.tank there (rather often) and everybodies happy.

Yea, a lot of places have used oil heaters to heat their shops, so they are glad to get used oil.

Auto Zones and Kragens both have free oil recycling no questions asked. Kind of a messy mess doing it that way so I don't do my car or truck changes myself. But I like to do my own bike changes myself. You can tell a lot by looking at your old oil.

That might not be a bad idea for home owners now with the price of oil.
