you should be able to, but I think you'd want to go to a breather set up that would route down to a catch can. All you would have to do is clean it out once in a while, depending on how much it blows out oil. Ther is a few set-ups out there, you just have to pick the one for your model and liking.

Default Aircleaner Oil Leak

Franko,

I have a 2004 1200C XL that has the exact same problem as yours. I was just wondering if you ended up fixing the problem and what you did. If you could let me know I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

I purchased a Breather Kit from JP cycles Part#4000330 for $29.00.
You can either direct the hose under the bike to dump on the ground or into a canister.

I chose the Canister also from JP cycles. Part#431-335. $122.99.
Spendy little piece. I have it mounted on front frame behind Engine Gaurd.

There is a screw under it to drain. I drain it every few days depending on humidity in the air. I drain more water then oil.

2 Drawbacks. If you do not drain canister it blows out the filter on top. It ends up all over. If you ride in the rain the rain gets in through the filter and again it blows all over the side of the bike. A f-n mess.

You can see it on one of my Pictures in the Member Pic section in this site. I put a red filter on it.

Franko, on my '04 Dyna Low Rider I have found it's critical to torque the bolt that holds the chrome air cleaner cover in place. If too tight, my fuel injected Dyna will somehow let oil escape and I get a small drip from the bottom of the air cleaner cover. Once I loosen and retighten w/a torque wrench (you'll need one that reads inch pounds, not foot pounds) the dripping stops. Be sure to apply a little blue Loctite before torqueing down and your bolt should stay just where you put it until it's time to remove it to service the air cleaner.

Your fix might be as simple as this - I hope it is!

Ride strong,

John Brown

That doesn't sound too bad at all, and since I'm in the desert I don't have to worry about rain too much. Thanks I appreciate it JCOURNEYAP.

My Evo would cover the side of the bike with oil if I ran it for any length of time. Now, I run the bike 1/2 quart of oil low, and have not had a problem with the bike blowing oil since I began doing this.

Thumbs up

I had the same problem with my 97 Superglide. I was thinking because of the mileage on my bike that it could have been a clogged oil line, breather gear, rings or umbrella valves etc. etc. But since i was planning on changing my air cleaner anyway i figured what the hell! I was running an early style Screaming Eagle set-up, where the breather hose connects to the bottom of the air cleaner assembly. Now if you think about it there isn't a carb anywhere in the world that could draw that oil mist from the bottom of the air cleaner. The cure? I went to an Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner assembly which is designed to direct the oil mist directly into the mouth of the air cleaner. Guess what? No more oil baths! And it eliminates all the clutter around the carb for a nice clean look!
