Question Oil Filters

Just a quiz,
How many people who change their own engine oil in their bike, use HD filters bought from the dealer. And how many people use other filters, and any other filters for cars, which are interchangeable.

I use a Wix51348, It is for some type of chevorlet car, metro maybe, cant rember. but I don't have a dealer within 90 miles of me, but a parts store 5 miles away. much faster.

Last Christmas I got a gift certificate for my local Harley dealer and decided to buy nine oil filters. That should last me a while.

At the moment, I have the deep HD filter for a Dyna on my bike. But only because I was in a hurry and could'nt seem to find a K&N in stock anywhere at the time...written up in AIM as having excellent filtering AND a heavier duty relief (by-pass) valve than others

I used to use Harley filters. Then i switched to K&N because of the welded on nut. I am going to stop using them because they are made in Thailand. I had my local auto parts store order a Wix in chrome. I plan on using them now.

I dont know the micron rating but they are one of the oldest filter companies around. In fact they invented spin on oil filters.

I use HiFlow filters half the price of H-Ds own, but they are specific for my bike, ie the long type for Dynas, also available in black or chrome.

If you are using a 19 micron filter on a Twin Cam just add some dirt to the oil and get it over with.

Stock is rated at 10 microns.

ANY name brand 20W50 oil is OK.

Filters are much more important if you care about wear.

Be picky.

FWIW I didn't vote the poll because I am currently using HD filters, but will use another if I am satisfied as to the micron rating.

Average filter.

Wix makes some great filters, this is average.

And the Beta Ratio is non sensical. Should be something like B10 @ 5 microns.

Which translates to a 10:1 reduction at 5 microns. Or 90% efficient.

B2= 50% Eff
B10 = 90%
B20= 95%
B75= 98.7%
B200= 99.5%
B1,000= 99.9%

I use up to B3,000 at 3 microns at work. Thats some gooood filtering.
