Default pure one

I have an '06 sporty and I was wondering if someone could tell me where I can find a pure 1 oil filter for her. Do I have to order off of the web? thanks. od

I've looked in all my catalogs and see no mention of a "pure 1" oil filter... I've not heard of them, tell me about em...
Could you be thinking of Per-form oil filters..?? They're in all my catalogs...
Wish I could be more help...

Purpulator PureOne oil filters. Best luck would be on the internet. You can get em for cars at Pepboys or Sears. Some of your Motorsport places carry them for "Rice Burners". Not sure who would carry them for a Harley.

I haven't found a pure 1 for the bikes yet, but I did pick up some HDs rated at 5 microns.

For many years I used a car filter...
Other than diameter, height, the need for anti-drain back or not, the need for a specific by-pass pressure or not, the last thing you must match is the thread...
Some are 3/4"x16, the others are metric, and most don't say on the boxes or spec sheets...

MY plan is to buy a stock harley filter for my bike and measure the thread count, size, and depth and then measure the gasket size and go to the parts store and size em up. Im pretty sure all the pure1 filters have an anti-drain back seal. As for the bypass valve, i may have to do some research. od

Um, maybe you know sumpim we'd all like to get in on...
Why is a Pure 1 so important, have you heard or read some really good information about em or what..?? Tell us...

When I'm finally able to get the micron size info from KN and if it's what I want (30 rating) I'll be going back to KN...
The reason, it was in a Donny Peterson artical(i think) a couple years ago, the KN had the most and best filter media according to tests he performed or that he knew of... I trust that... Anyway, in my opinion the by-pass pressure is your least important spec...
For thread size at least--get a 3/4" 16 nut at the nut store and see if it threads on yer filter bracket threads, then you'll know if it's metric or not, only those 2 sizes that I know of...

I have no special reasoning for going with pure1. Ive always used them on truck engines ive rebuilt and I guess its just brand loyalty. Resent readings of mine have confirmed that the pure 1 may not be a cure all for dirty oil but it certainly beats out the lesser filters(ie fram). The filter media is of a higher quality and there is lots of it. I also think KN makes a very good filter. I just wish HD would disclose who makes theirs. http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html This seems to be a pretty decent article on the subject. As for the bypass valve. Im not too worried about the pressure, just its construction. I dont want one that will malfunction and bypass the oil after 1000 miles. od

I can't remember what the web site is, but there is a site that has cross-overs for H-D filters. I got a Purolator One on my Heritage now because I changed oil on Sunday and forgot there was no place open to get a "normal" filter. I should know this as my wife just got an '06 sporty for Christmas, but could you use a long filter that would fit a '97 Heritage? (Time to read the manual, I guess.) If so, I can get you the part number if it's on the filter.
