Default Mobile1 Syn 75W 90

Since I relocated I am closer too more Auto Parts stores than HD Stealerships.

So yeah I am finding alternatives for some of my basics needs. So I will be using or trying Mobile1 Syn 75w 90 gear lube in my Primary. Good to use in limited slip gear boxes. I am hoping it does not create issues with my clutch. If so just drain and refill. Anyway.................

Pros or Cons of using it in my Primary. Does anyone know of any negative impacts other than word of mouth of a third or fourth party?

Default gear oil

Hey Joe,

We are talking Sportster right ? I have used synthetic gear oil with mixed results. On a high mileage bike the clutch did slip. I used regular gear oil on my own 66 CH and it did slip. Wound up pulling the clutch and washing the plates to get it to stop. If I can`t get the HD stuff I think 15/50 synthetic motor oil is the next best thing. I do have a friend using Mobil 1 75/90 in a 2006 1200C primary without any issues. Bottom line I don`t think there is any benefit to gear oil in a Sportster primary.

Yep its for a Sporty. Thanks for the info Wright. I will be dumping it in when I get home. Guess will see what happens. I guess I was fishing for the negatives of it if any..........It was available so I bought it.

I was poised to help out with my experience until I saw that you're talking Sportster. I put that oil in my Low Rider transmission and am very pleased with it but that's not the same situation. No clutch in there. I'll be interested to see what oil you settle on in case I ever deal with a sportster in the future.

I use the Mobil 1 or the Royal Purple gear lube in both the tranny and primary.
I do not use the lube with limited slip additives.

I switched to MB1 75/90. Bike seems to shift a litle better. Next change I am trying spectro for the 6 speeds.

I forgot about this post.

Well it be six months I have ridin below Freeezing. In the warmth of High 60 degrees. Fast and slow. So far no issues. Does just fine. I cannot tell for sure whether I notice if the bike shifts any better than before. It shifts just fine.....Course my clutch is just fine and adjusted correctly.

I just got the HD stuff for my daughters Sportie.

In the TC's I run, I think, 85W-90 Primary and , I know, 90W-140 in the tranny.

The 07 shifts better. I'll try to 06 when the wet stops.
