shovel head oil pumps I have had oil pressure problems with my 79 shovel. Among them were determining that no oil jet was installed in my pinion. This solved my wet sumping bottom end. My top end was still over pressurized judging from the leaks and valve covers filling with oil. I even went to outside oiling heads thinking it was in the drain holes but that was not the problem. I found a dowel installed in an 82 shovel oil pump. This part has no number, and is not shown in exploded drawings, just like the oil jet in the pinion shaft has no number and is not shown. I have found a drawing in a Clymers manual that includes the dowel. Installation of the dowel seems to cure the problem. Will this be sufficient or should I buy the template from S&S and drill the case. I can make no sense of the modifications S&S recommends and have a problem just boring holes in cases without understanding exactly why. The work involved is no problem. Thanks to anybody that can help.
Found the problem, it was a mismatched mechanic. The dowel is just to keep the spring from wearing out according to S&S guru Al Shumacher. My problem was a mismatched cam cover. He also explained the drilling procedures to me but I didn't have to perform any of them.
