Question Shabby oil change

I have an '09 FXDB that I recently had my 1K service done on; from here on I will do my own but had already planned to. Problem I had was that dealer did such a lousy job with draining all fluids. I know it's difficult to keep from getting oil on the case(s) at the drain areas, but since I didn't see any spots when I parked it overnight I assumed they had done a good job. After a few days of riding I noticed oil stains and grime at the bottom of the filter receiver, on the from rubber mount and under my bike on the cases adjacent to the drain plugs for the case, tranny and primary. Isn't oil bad for the rubber mounts and shouldn't they know better? I can also tell that they re-used the drain bolt o-rings because they were pinched and torn.

Question, what's the best way to make sure I do not have an active leak? It's hard to tell. What's the best way to clean off the oil from my rubber mtd and cases so I can better check to see if there are leaks. I've used brake cleaner in the past but don't know if it's safe for rubber mounts. I appreciate all input. Thanks.

Awesome forum with lots of knowledgeable folks.

I too use brakleen to clean off the oil from the front rubber motor mount... then blow dry with compressor, followed up with a rag.
If it is bad for the rubber I'd like to know, but with 35k miles, and the front mount still looks to be fine on my '06 Ultra, it seems to be working.
of course I usually was the bike within a day ot so of the oil change, taking the time to squirt the "Bike-Brite" cleaner in, on, and around where the oil filter and front motor mount is.

If you are worried about it you could switch from brake clean to carb cleaner. It cleans about as well and is not suppose to harm rubber and/or o-rings in any case.

I soak the neighborhood down with biodegradeable Simple Green degreaser and wash it off with lots of water from the tomatoe hose, no rubber mount troubles yet, and a clean oil filter and oil cooler area.

Yeah,Tommyglide is on the right track,Simple Green or S100,no brake or carb cleaner unless you wash it off immediately.

Simple Green rocks.

Also works great to get rid of gas and/or diesel smells off your clothes in the washer.

At one time I used Simple Green to clean aircraft. BeechCraft came out with a bulletin warning that Simple Green attacks aluminum and recommended against its use. I think their concern was that it gets into the nooks and doesn't get flushed out completely and can cause corrosion.
