Default Clutch and Throttle lube

Anyone got any suggestions which one is better than the other? Is there an easy way to go about it? Thanks

Hey Unf

There are several ways,, all good..

I've seen photos of lil funnels made outa paper..
You can remove the entire cable and immerse in the desired lube..
There is a CableLube tool that cinches & seals around the top of the cable (while holding in hand) that you push the Lube dispenser tube into and spray..
It directs the lube into the outer cable without a mess.. Ok,, mine worked for many years but Now just makes a mess..

Now, I just use whatever kinda lite lube I have handy,, Tri-Flow, 3 in 1 oil, even 20-50 diluted with wd-40,,,, etc etc etc,, so far, that's about my fav..

I pull the cable end off, pull up the inner cable and slowly drip the lube on the inner,,, it just sneaks into the opening hole,, 3 -- 4 minutes it's done..
When I use my slightly heavier concoction I simply brace it against something that holds it up for another few min. for gravity to do it's job----- the time it takes to have a M-L..
Altogether-- maybe 10 min..

I bet some even better ways will be sugg'd..

All I can add to that is that I finnished off with a short blast of air to blow the lube thru the cable. But gravity does a good job in the absence of an air compressor.

Thanks to both of you. I went out and adjusted my clutch cable, while in the process of it I noticed the jam nut and clutch adjustment were corroded (from sitting in that great Southern Miss weather for almost 9 months). So then it smacked me if those were covered by the rubber protective boot and corroded then more than likely there is some gunk build up on my cables. They're probably due for a good lube job anyhow.

I get a small baggie with some ATF in it. Stick the cable in the baggie and tie some string around both and the other end of the string around something that will support everything upside down. Uhhh.... my description isn't workin' too well is it? I'll have to get some pics up when I do it this weekend. Stay tuned.

So the baggie with ATF in there looks like an IV drip and the oil drains thru the cable into.... a pan or another bag??? sounds good.

I was thinking about the way I do it with the air. I kinda wondered if I am blowing too much air and that it leaves little to no oil in the cable...
But I watched 4 drops go down the cable into th liner, then I used the air... I repeated this 3 times and never did see oil come out the other end..... I got impatient and put it back together for a short ride... It was so much easier that I decided it was lubed fine.

MonkeyBoy

I think I know just what you are describing and it sounds teriffic..

The fluid has No choice but to go into the cable hole,, heck, if you seal off the bag totally you can even squeeze the fluid into the cable..

You get the Gold Star..!

That's exactly how it works. The baggie is tied onto the lever end of the cable and gravity does it's thing. The ATF drips into the inside of the cable housing and eventually into the transmission/clutch area. No need to disconnect the cable at that point. I usually lube the cable every third or fourth fluid change so, the ATF that gets into the trans. gets drained and replaced with the proper gear lube.

Now if I can just figure out an easier way to lube the brake cables I'll be set.
